New Fire West of Williston Lake Growing Rapidly

Saturday, July 12, 2014 @ 1:50 PM

Prince George, B.C. – There is yet another wildfire to report as the heat dries out the forests of northern BC.

The Tenakihi  fire is located approximately 50 kilometres west of Williston Lake, between the Mesilinka River and Tenakihi Creek.  The fire, which was discovered on Thursday, is estimated at 1,000 hectares in size.  The Provincial Wildfire Management branch says the fire is very active and is expected to see significant growth today and tomorrow.

No homes are threatened although officials say crews are working to protect some infrastructure in the area.  However, many parts of the fire will be put into "modified response" and closely monitored, but not actively fought.   One sustained action crew and an Incident Commander are on site.

The Tenakihi fire was started by a lightning strike.

Two fires near the town of Mackenzie too. One up the Mugaha river valley and another up the Chichouenily valley. Both are quite close to town but it looks like the fire crews are hard at them. A couple of bomber planes are attacking them as well.
