Prince George, B.C. – The grounds of the Pacific Western Brewery came alive Saturday with residents old and young invited in to enjoy the annual Open House.

There were beverages of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety on hand for folks to enjoy in the heat of the day.  And there were tours of the brewery, beer tasting, burgers and hot dogs, live musical entertainment and much more.

PR spokesman for Pacific Western, Brian Kieran, says “PWB has an open house annually and this year it’s coinciding with our Hometown Heroes program.  Pacific Western is a major sponsor of the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.  In the run-up to the Games, Kazuko Komatsu the owner of the brewery will be selecting 16 Hometown Heroes from four regions of the province: the northern interior, the south, greater Vancouver and Vancouver Island.”

On Saturday the second group of four Heroes were awarded bursaries worth $2,000 each.  The recipients include Smithers gymnastics coach Alana Jense, Revelstoke freeskier Adam McCraw, UBC women’s hockey player Danielle Dube and Victoria Special Olympics figure skater Emily Walzak.  They were presented their awards by four-time Olympic speedskating medalist Denny Morrison of Fort St. John.

PWB is accepting applications to the end of January 2015 with two more groups of four athletes selected from the same major provincial regions.
