Campfire Bans Coming Into Effect
Prince George, B.C.- New campfire bans are coming into effect.
As of noon today, and until further notice, campfires are banned in the Kamloops Fire centre, and has been expanded to the full region of the Cariboo Fire Centre.
The campfire ban covers all BC Parks and Crown and private lands, but does not apply within the boundaries of local governments that have forest fire prevention bylaws and are serviced by a fire department
As of 4 pm. tomorrow, campfires and open burning will be prohibited in portions of the Northwest Fire Centre as well.
The measures are being taken to reduce the risk of human caused wildfires.
As of noon yesterday the fire danger rating in much of the province was high to extreme.
There have been 523 wildfires since April 1st of this year, the fires have consumed 46,356 hectares.
