Personnel from Other Provinces Arrive to Help Fight Fires
Prince George, B.C. – Help is on the way, as the BC Wildfire Management Branch has asked for the assistance of more than 70 people to help fire fighting efforts in B.C.
55 additional personnel were to arrive today from Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec. They comprise two Type 1 Incident Management Teams, one Type 2 Incident Management Team and other single resources.
One Type 1 Incident Management Team from Alberta, consisting of 14 personnel, arrived in B.C. on July 14 and has since been deployed to the Red Deer Creek fire located about 61 kilometers southeast of Tumbler Ridge.
These new arrivals are in addition to the 21 people who arrived from Ontario on Sunday.
"This extended stretch of hot and dry weather has led to increased fire activity in many areas of British Columbia, so we've asked for additional out-of-province assistance. We thank these provinces for their help battling wildfires in B.C." says Minister of Forests Steve Thomson.
The Wildfire Management Branch has responded to 573 wildfires so far this season ( since April 1st) and there are 12 active fires of note. The Mt. McAllister fire has forced the evacuation of Hudson's Hope.
