Mt. Polley Mine Area Off Limits

Saturday, August 9, 2014 @ 6:36 PM

Likely, B.C. – Effective immediately, the Cariboo Regional District has issued a legal Order to Restrict Access to the Mount Polley Mine area as a result of the breach of the tailings pond at the Mount Polley Mine Site.

The Order will remain in effect until further notice and has been put into place to ensure public safety.

Points that help define this area are located at the north end of Polley Lake, on the Bootjack Forest Service Road, on Gavin Lake Road and two points on the Horsefly Likely Road (Ditch Road).

In addition, an area on Quesnel Lake near the mouth of the Hazeltine Creek is also restricted.

Check points and or gates will be established on all boundaries.

Could it be that access is being limited in order to prevent non government/mine persons from conducting their own water testing?

No no no. No independent analysis, photos or outsiders allowed?

So access will be banned for ever then.

Too many lookie loos just like any accident. Like the dolts who drove into an active fire you can’t do cleanup with people trying to get the ‘selfie’. Some people are idiots and they create a risk to themselves and have to be saved from their own actions at times.

Common sense isn’t very common these days..

The Likely-Horsefly road is a very common used road. I have taken it numerous times. This road is now blocked from the outflow of derby. No doubt locals and effected fishermen have an interest in seeing what happen ended.

IMO it’s about preventing independent testing of the water.
