All Quiet On The Election Front
While in some communities around the province the rhetoric is beginning to heat up for this fall's civic election , that hasn't been the case in Prince George.
We do know that this election is for a four year term, that gives whoever is elected a great deal of breathing room before they face the voters again.
Of course the existing council members are trying to stay below the radar hoping that the bad taste that existed in the minds of the voters up until recently, goes away before voting day, the new comers hoping to get a seat in the city have been very ,very quite.
We do know that there is a Mayors race, and in spite of hearing that there may be a super candidate in the wings waiting to jump in nothing has developed there.
Don Zurowski is looking for a return to civic life, while Lyn Hall is hoping that he has done enough to capture the imagination of the voters to move him from councillor to the Mayor's chair. It is hard to even suggest who is running in the front in this race. At this time both seem to be sitting in the wings waiting for the other one to drop the first volley.
Woven in between that fight will be a one of major interest in the community, the replacement of Dick Harris as the sitting MP. Harris is expected to toss in the towel and so far the un announced candidates are getting the most attention. Mayor Green had hoped to walk into the seat in the riding, but there continues to be that "anyone but Green" faction at work.
Based on the candidates that have indicated their interest and of course based on who gets the most memberships sold , Green, in spite of effectively taking over the directors of the riding earlier, will run a nice third in the race, although it is fair to say that she did get a round of applause at the Vanderhoof Air Show when she was introduced. Getting the nomination is all about selling memberships and then getting your group out to vote for you.
Someone along the way suggested that if Green got the nod for the riding she would no doubt be in the federal cabinet. That was more than a bit of a stretch and there are people in Ottawa who are worried what impact a Green nomination would have on the final vote and what they see, they don't like.
So its summer and the winds of change are quiet, well at least on the surface.
I'm Meisner and that's one man's opinion.

This is the first time I heard about a **Super Candidate** that may be sitting in the wings, so the suggestion makes me curious. I wasn’t aware that there was such a Candidate in Prince George.
Cant help but wonder who it would be, and how he or she rose to the level of **super**.
Hopefully the other Mayoralty Candidates are busy working on their platform and when they do start to make their moves, they will have something of substance to say. We need to ensure that we vote in people who have the interests of all the citizens of Prince George, and who have the ability to know the difference between responsible spending, and wasting tax dollars.
Some Councilors were consistent supports of Mayor Green and her policies, of selling off assets, and increasing service costs, etc; These people are now hoping that this will all be forgotten by election time, and that they can get in one more time for a four year term. I certainly hope this is not the case. These individual Councilors (yes men) need to make a career move, as they have caused nothing but grieve for the Citizens of Prince George for a number of years.
Hopefully this campaign gets some legs pretty soon.
Yes it is currently quiet and voting day is still a long way out.
I believe it is still the third Saturday in
November.
According to the civic election rules, the candidates that have filed all the paperwork required can start campaigning anytime they want, unless there are local rules.
Should read grief, not grieve.
Who else besides Sherri is running for the Conservative nomination?
I have heard in the buzzz (to be confirmed of course), That there are at least FOUR more so far….
T.J. Grewal PG
Nick Fedoriku PG
A Mr. Caron Vand
Todd Doherty PG
Of course all this is hearsay now because no one has “formally” announced anything. But the political grapevine is getting interesting.
And as Ben mentioned, I have heard too that the “anyone but Sherri Green” movement is getting huge.
This is getting good!!!!
that there may be a super candidate in the wings waiting to jump in nothing has developed there.
===========================================
That would be Don Zurowski. Hey maybe its Gus?
Cheers
so nice to hear of others putting their names forward, I hope that Todd makes a decision soon, he would be my number one choice!
Sherri Green needs to realize that she doesn’t have a leg to stand on, but hey, let her run so that she can see how we the voeters really feel about her. She is , not respected and does not relate to the constituents needs.
voters! not voeters (damn keyboard!))
