Monday, August 11, 2014 @ 9:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Striking teachers and the provincial government are back at the bargaining table.

In a world where no news is good news, Prince George District teachers  Association Vice President says all is quiet “There hasn’t been a peep.”

Giroday  attended the teachers rally in Vanderhoof on the weekend, as did the Vice President of the BC Teachers Federation.   According to Giroday,  the Province has  come back to the table without any pre-conditions  “That in itself is a positive step” says Giroday who adds the two sides have agreed to continue their talks  throughout the week.

In School District 57,  teachers are scheduled to be back in the classrooms on September 2nd for a non instructional day,  and  students are scheduled to return on September 3rd.

The two sides met on Friday, the first such meeting in  weeks.  The Teachers have been pushing to have the dispute go to mediation, but  potential mediators  have  said  the two sides were too far apart to  go down that path.

COME ON YOU 2, GET THIS DAMN THING RESOLVED.

The teachers did it all wrong in the last election. If they would have given large amounts of money to the Liberals in in the last election they would be smiling now.

Just read below what Imperial Metals did and the government is on their side on the disaster at Polley Lake.

Major Imperial Metals shareholder held private fundraiser for Clark’s re-election bid. Oilpatch billionaire and chairman of Canadian Natural Resources N. Murray Edwards among several Alberta power-brokers involved.

Christy Clark should offer the teachers $40/day for each student. If she has that money for parents then she should have it for teachers. That would work out to $800/day for a class of 20 students. The school year is about 200 days so that works out to $160,000 per year. I think the teachers would jump at that compensation that Christy is offering the parents. If she has the money for the parents, then she must have the money for the teachers.

Wrong astro. The government is saving about $12M per day that they would have paid if the teachers were working. Since they are not, the money is being returned to taxpayers.

Traditionally, the money that has been saved and given to teachers in settlements, but the game has changed.

If the strike drags on as long as the teachers are hinting it might, people will have to pay for and find arrangements for child care/tutoring. The government recognizes this. At least somebody is looking out for the taxpayer… the BCTF clearly isn’t.

In any case, it’s in everyone’s best interest to get a deal done before the beginning of the school year. Nobody will win if this strike drags on.

You brought up your error before on another article astro and it is still wrong. You forget that teachers are not the only expense the government has to pay for.

The government spends 12,000 per student per year (8,600 to the school board) or divide that by 187 instructional days and the government shells out about 64 dollars a day per student k-12. Even take the 8,600 they pay to the school board and divide it by instructional days and you are close to 45.00 a day.

THAT is why they are offering 40.00 per day per student to 13 years old. Or close to half the students and you can see they are not paying the equivalent of 160,000 a year to parents

oldman – of course you are aware that Imperial Metals has also donated to the NDP over the past few years… na, that doesnt make good Liberal bashing fodder.

interceptor- I hoped that they would have given more money to the NDP or any other party and maybe they could have won the last election. I don’t care what party is in power but when your dealing with a bunch of clowns like we have now it is time to get rid of them.
The whole world is watching what is happening at the mine and it doesn’t look good for BC.

The whole world is watching what is happening at the mine and it doesn’t look good for BC.

That is one of the silliest statements I’ve seen around here in a long time. The rest of the world has their own problems, the mine is not one of them.

Maybe the teachers want an extra month or two vacation before they start teaching.

Yep China is watching, that country of enviromental purity.

Pretty amusing that the teachers agreed to go back to the table right after the government announced the $40.00 per day to parent a with kids under 13 for child care.
As soon as the teachers realized the government has plans for a long strike the teachers tune changed quickly.
Pretty amusing.

Buzzinga, nothing is going to change, Iker and company are still there. Thought they’d figured that out, but nope, probably didn’t even read my letter.
Oh well. But, you know, it’s for the kids,……right?

What exact;y would have changed in regards to the mine if the NDP was in power?

At least we know the price of ignorance: $40 a day

Maybe the teachers want an extra month or two vacation before they start teaching.
