A Dozen Fire Starts Over the Weekend

Prince George, B.C. – Fire crews tended to 12 new fire starts over the weekend in the Prince George Fire Centre.
"All but four of those were caused by lightning. Six are in the initial attack phase, three are already out, two are in the patrol stage and one is in mop up," says Fire Information Officer Susie Lassek.
She says crop harvesting has led to multiple starts the past week (none larger than 3 hectares in size) and as a result urges those harvesting to be extra cautious and watch for any sparks or smoke.
Though none of the fires are "significant" in size Lassek says there are still five fires of note in the region.
She says they include the Euchiniko Lakes blaze 120 km west of Quesnel at 10,500 hectares, the Forres Mountain fire (24,000 hectares) 50 km Northwest of Williston Lake, the Mount McAllister fire west of Chetwynd (16,000 hectares), the 980 hectare fire Northwest of Chinchaga River and the largest, the Tenakihi fire (50 km west of Williston Lake) at 53,000 hectares.
She says hot and dry temperatures are forecasted all week so Lassek asks "everyone to be diligent with campfires and to report them" by calling 1-800-663-5555 or by dialing *5555 on your cell phone.
