Deadline Day for Torchbearer Nominations
Prince George, B.C. – The deadline to nominate a torchbearer for next year's Canada Winter Games in Prince George is 5 this afternoon.
Manager of Communications and Community Relations for the games Alyson Gourley-Cramer says only 150 people will have the opportunity to carry the torch and says they'll be looking for the following when making their selections.
"When people submit they submit a story to go along with the submission so for us it's really about the achievements and the inspiring story that accompanies the submission. We'll also be looking for representation from each region in the north (Northwest, Northeast and the Central Interior)."
Gourley-Cramer says they will announce the winners in September and says they'll announce the communities hosting torch celebrations September 23.
From there Gourley-Cramer says the torch will be lit on Parliament Hill on October 15th before landing in Victoria October 17th and will then will travel through past host communities (Burnaby, New Westminster and Kamloops) before making it's way to Prince George for the kick-off of the Northern portion of the relay November 4th.
She says November 4th will mark 100 days until the start of the games and says the kick-off will take place in the Civic Plaza which will be unveiled that day as the new Canada Games Plaza.
Those interested in making a nomination can go to www.canadagames2015.ca.

Is it true they are trying to charter a plane, at an outrageous expense, to fly a crew of dignitaries back east to get the torch? Someone please shed some light on this.
