More Positive Water Quality Results from Likely
Likely, B.C.- There is little new to report in the Mt. Polley tailings pond breach.
The Provincial Government says latest water quality test results, from samples gathered on Saturday the 9th, and on Sundaya the 10th have once again confirmed water in the Quesnel Lake and river, meet Provincial and Federal drinking water guidelines.
Test results are expected this weekend from Ministry of Environment water samples obtained from the discharge point of Polley Lake into Hazeltine Creek, as well as results from sediment samples collected from the tailings
pond breach area and Hazeltine Creek.
The Ministry has also released information about rainbow trout toxicity tests. The results show water collected from Quesnel Lake near the mouth of Hazeltine Creek on Aug. 5 and 6, 2014, was not toxic to rainbow trout.
In this test, juvenile rainbow trout were held in controlled laboratory water and the Quesnel Lake water, at different strengths of toxicity, for 96 hours. All fish were observed regularly with a 100% survival rate at all concentrations and no unusual behaviour reported.
Imperial Metals will be holding a community meeting this evening at 6 at the Likely Community Hall.
Imperial Mdetals has until the end of the day tomorrow to file its long term mitigation and clean up plan to the Ministry of the Environment.

Yet this water somehow boiled the skin off Salmon http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/08/08/skin-falling-off-salmon-mount-polley_n_5663218.html
What about testing the lake and river bottoms ? That’s where the toxins would sink to.. And be kicked up after a good rain, snow melt etc.
Do toxins sink? Whats is with all the media hype about the toxins? Do we know there are toxins in the tailings or are we just assuming this to make a story. I for one believe that the president of the company would drink the water less the solids.the stringent rules that are in place in the mining industry help to protect us.Having said that the breach of the tailings pond was unexcusible to say the least. It is the case of I know better or I can save a buck and do not listen to the consulting engineers that they hired to perform work on the site
There has to be some bad news! Come on! Look harder!!!
Problem is listening to left wing media.
Did you not see the sludge pouring out of the tailing pond ? Do you think that would pass any kind of drinking water test? It all ended up in the rivers and lakes it poured into.
It has been collecting for years and years.. They were not allowed to release it.. But now that it has been released it’s okay… Yeah right.. How much did this company give the liberals in contributions again.. $1,000,000. Guess we know the cost of buying clark
JB and seamut are tap dancing as hard and as fast as our Environment Minister and Christy Clark.
Arguably the world’s worst mining disaster, and nothing is wrong for them!
Not dancing for anyone, doom and gloomer. Just looking at the facts. Worst mining disaster. Where did you get that from? Sources?
PVal, they release the water constantly. Read up on how a tailings pond works
There’s the left wing media hysterics, and then there’s science.

Global News doesn’t strike me as being a lefty news source.
I don’t think global news covered the 301 miners who were killed in turkey this year..all our miners and public came out alive in this case..
Seems the problem was they couldn’t get rid of the excess water in the tailings pond fast enough. So they just kept building it bigger and bigger….
Wondering why they don’t use that water for fracing instead of pumping clean water out of lakes and streams in the province?
