Mit Lake Dam Needs Repair
Williams Lake, B.C. – The Cariboo Regional District is advising the public of an issue at a private dam northwest of Quesnel.
The dam is located on Mit Lake, off the Nazko Road. A recent, regularly scheduled inspection of the dam, discovered some erosion at the toe of the dam. The erosion requires immediate repair.
The dam owner must reduce the dam level by at least one metre in order to complete a full assessment .
According to the Cariboo Regional District, if the dam should fail, the “potential impacts would be contained largely on the dam owner’s property”, but because the lake is being used by locals for recreation, dam failure or work on the dam will mean lake levels will be lower.
