BC Greens Launch Mt. Polley Petition Drive
Prince George, B.C. – The BC Green Party has launched a petition drive to help push the provincial government into calling an independent investigation into the Mt. Polley tailings pond breach.
"We've been getting feedback constantly from people with respect to the Mt. Polley mine disaster so we put the petition together," says interim party leader Adam Olsen.
So far he says they've collected 1,500 signatures and says they plan to take them to the BC Legislature.
He adds independence is badly needed in this situation.
"The government has been releasing water results for just 10 days and the message we still get from residents in the area is that they are still concerned about the quality of the water and I think what they're seeing and what they're hearing is difficult to correlate for them."
You can sign the petition at www.greenparty.bc.ca/met_polley.

Why don’t they go test the water? Even the hard cord conspiracy theorists would believe their results as they didn’t get a contribution from Imperial Metals.
Sure people from Lower main land many that have no idea were quesnel lake is will dictate the future of this Mine and the 400 direct jobs that depend on it?Yes we have to know the cause and who is responsible and start the clean up all the rest just politics.
Doesn’t Victoria still pump raw sewage into the ocean? Maybe Olsen should look to clean up his own backyard first?
The three of you well said. No wonder they get no votes, going after headlines with no meat. Hey Green, it’s over, quit your fearful crying.
I wouldn’t exactly call a spill of this magnitude fearful crying. THE repercussions of this breach will not be known for quite some time. I SEE nothing wrong with an independent investigation into this matter, keep everything on the up and up. HEAVEN knows that this govt. needs this.
How many consperiencey theorists have curly lightbulbs and realize they have mercury in them. Most of these lightbulbs are thrown into the garbage, then leaching into the environment, by the millions.
Obviously this situation calls for an independent judicial inquiry. It’s the biggest tailing pond breach in the world. Only a fool would think this is politics as usual.
No it isn’t Eagleone, the biggest in Canada

Forgot to mention that a the first one has been leaking since 1984 and has never been repaired and ther mine continued to operated
Lots of contributions were made to the Liberals. The least they could do is do everything properly.

you got me on that one, what hasn’t been done properly?
The Green Party would have us planting spuds at these mine sites and shooing away bears. I kind of dig that my roads are paved and if I get sick that I can access some health care. Mines and forestry make our world go around.
