Prince George, B.C. – Hundreds if not thousands of residents are busy taking in Summerfest today in downtown Prince George.

One of the biggest draws is the Taste Pavilion where close to 20 food vendors are shopping their wares.

Chef Rodney Mansbridge with UNBC Food Services says they brought 400 portions of Mediterranean Back Ribs but says they've already sold half their stock just 40 minutes in.

Mansbridge also notes it's UNBC's first time taking part in the event and so far it's been a great experience.

"I heard 2,000 people may show up today which is overwhelming in the sense that it's so positive. I like seeing all these people down here."

Summerfest runs until 4 and there's a lot more to see than food including live entertainment, a mini rail, and street performers.

I was there at noon and the UNBC station was already sold out. Obviously they didn’t prepare to serve very many people. On the other hand, the rest of the stations were hopping! Amazing food, generous portions! Couldn’t even use up all of the tickets I bought so gave them away to some other folks. The music was really good too! Overall it was a terrific day for this event.

We were there – had a couple of nice tastes. White Goose was struggling to keep up to their demand – restaurant had to restock hundreds of portions several times I was told. Nancy O’s and others were doing great too. Loved watching the big and little kids on the mini train – what a great idea!

This type of festival is great for our city!

What?!?! How did I not hear about this? Wouldn’t have made it due to work anyways, but this would have been awesome to sneak away to for a few hours!

Agreed Peegee. I would’ve loved to go had I known about it.

We got there at 1:30 and over half the food booths were sold out. Had some good butter chicken and kobe sliders though. Nice to see it so busy too.

about a half hour wait in a few lines, we split up and got in three different lines to sample the pulled pork and butter chicken, but did miss out on the mini burgers. Lots going on at noon when we got there. No fish bit…but we did shoot a few squirrels

Fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves downtown. All in all a great event.
