Prince George, B.C. – Today YXS took reporters on a tour of the baggage screening area due for a make-over starting tomorrow.

The $2 million upgrade will be paid for by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and will take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

Manager of Marketing & Communications at YXS Lindsay Cotter says the work means some minor adjustments for customers checking their baggage.

"We're asking passengers to arrive 90 minutes early for their flights because they now have two lines they need to wait in. So you will go to your airline, get your bag tagged and your boarding pass and instead of leaving your bag(s) with the ticket agent, you would walk it to the Internationals Area and go through baggage screening."

She says once your bag is cleared at that point you would then go through pre-board screening which is for your carry on and your personal belongings.

Cotter says the airport will conduct a dry-run this afternoon with WestJet flights just to make sure "there are no kinks."

She says YXS was scheduled for the upgrades a few years down the road but notes they were able to jump the queue in time for the start of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

Too funny! 90 minutes beforehand now? So I need to be there at 4:30 in the bloody morning? Can I send a bill for my extra half hour to the airport?

Waaaa! Welcome to YVR!

Just wait till their is a glut of passengers going through YXS such as during the winter games. you will have to be there 3 hours ahead just so they can process all the domestic suspected terrorists.

I already get “…randomly selected for a pat down.” every second trip through there. Maybe I need to be there at 4:00 am now?

Hurry up and wait.

What’s going to happen is you’ll get more then the usual idiot or two who thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to be late for the flight. Of course, the airline will do their best to accommodate those inconsiderate buffoons and will make the rest of us sit in a stuffy airplane waiting. Then we’ll get those equally inconsiderate people who will bring “carry on” that is larger then most people’s checked bagged and the rest of us will have to wait while the flight attendants try to accommodate those few who believe the rest of us enjoying waiting for them. Of course, if the airlines would actually start enforcing their carry on limits this wouldn’t be an issue.

I miss Ward Air. That was a decent airline.

You got that right, axman. Nothing worse than getting on a flight and seeing all of the overhead compartments crammed with oversized carry ons.

The people at the gate should force those idiots with big carry ons to use the sizing device. If it doesn’t fit, it’s forced into checked baggage. No exceptions.

On Sunday, my wife was told she needed to arrive 2 hours ahead of her boarding time. {Because it was an International Destination) PG to Vancouver at 10:30 AM.

But, she didn’t leave Vancouver until 6:30 pm for Hawaii.

So, we arrived early that thinking we would have a nice bacon and egg breakfast while waiting the 2 hours to board. But, nay nay!.

There is no chef or cook working in our international restaurant at that time of the morning. (Let alone 4:00am)

Hopefully the food services part of our International Airport can keep pace with the demands of their travelers.

I was there the other day at 4:30 and the restaurant was open…I saw a lot of signage saying it’s open daily at 4:30am now.

First World problems…

Standing in line to fly off to somewhere for a vacation or stand in line for fresh water and food, oh the inconveniences we are made face….

The great philanthropists have spoken. I feel so humbled to be in your shadows.

Do I understand correctly that the “improvement” is having to wait in two lines rather than one? How does this improve security?
