Snow Removal, Emergency Choppers, Worker Safety, All Before P.G. Council
Prince George, B.C.- Representatives from the Northern B.C. Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operations Society (H.E.R.O.S.) will be calling on Prince George City Council this evening for support.
The Society has been pushing to have an emergency helicopter rescue service in the north, and is calling on Council to support their effort to make it happen in 2015.
The Society says Northern B.C. has a higher fatality rate among those who suffer trauma, largely, they say, because the injured die before they get to a hospital. H.E.R.O.S. argues the response time for a chopper would be one third of the existing ambulance time.
Council will also be called upon to approve the work plan for the snow and fleet operations for this year. The plan presents several actions which are recommended to be completed immediately ( see previous story).
Another presentation before Council will see the United Steelworkers present a video on their push to have government enforce the Westray Act which allows for criminal charges against companies when employees die on the job. Council will be called upon later in the meeting to support a resolution on that same matter. The resolution will be presented to the Union of B.C. municipalities.
The staff report on a review of the Video Gaming rules under the second hand and pawnbrokers bylaw will be back before Council. One video game business operator was calling for changes saying his product should not have to sit in the backroom for 30 days before being able to offer it for sale.
Council will also see the first outline of the changes necessary to reduce the size of building lots in several areas of the City. The reduced size idea was one which was presented during the Core review.

I think this means “city pay for it” and we will snivle like the PAC until you do.
I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD FALL ON PROVINCEL GOV.AS THIS IS OUT SIDE CITY TAX LIMETS.
There is no doubt that people die on the Highways because of the inability of an ambulance to get to the scene and back to a hospital in a reasonable time. So a helicopter service would certainly help, however we need this service from McBride to Prince Rupert/Kitimat/Terrace 100 Mile House and all points in between, so I agree that it is a Provincial Responsibility and they have been avoiding it for years.
Will any politician step forward and work for the citizens of Northern BC to ensure that we get better service.??? If the past 20 years are any indication, then the answer is no.

Flying around BC trying to convince us all that families are first and teachers are the enemy!
Why couldn’t the STARS air ambulance service be expanded to Northern BC? It already services Alta Sask and Manitoba so it has worked out expansion details before. They are already covering parts of BC so it does not seem like a huge stretch for them to continue that coverage to PG and west. In 2013 they flew 5 missions in Dawson Creek, 3 in Tumbler Ridge, 6 in Ft St John and 2 in Ft Nelson.
