RCMP Warning Fell On Deaf Ears
Thursday, September 11, 2014 @ 11:06 AM
Prince George- Some Prince George drivers didn’t listen to the advanced warning that the RCMP were about to crack down on drivers who failed to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
26 tickets were issued yesterday for failing to slow down and move over, in addition to 13 tickets issued for speeding.
The municipal traffic services had issued a release, earlier this week , cautioning drivers about how they should react when they see an emergency vehicle .

Keep up the good work!
Get some of these morons off the roads.
be intersing to know if they just put a vehicle by the side of the road to generate tickets
What release? In the newspapers that nobody reads or on the radio stations that nobody listens to? ;)
Guess people were distracted by their smartphones (which seems to make people dumber…..)
Its been a law here for some time now, and a good one. I laughed when I saw two vehicles pulled over on Foothills within a couple hundred yards of each other.
I love it when the police can work in tandem like that.
Thanks to the RCMP. I hope you guys can keep up the pressure.
I’m happy they were out there : pay attention to your driving habits, this is one law that happens to be very important. Anyone who does not slow down or pull over for emergency vehicles is taking someone elses life in their hands and for all they know it could very well be someone they know. So pay attention when you hear those sirens.
Jimmi – they were playing leapfrog on the Hart the other day. While one was writing a ticket the second car would radar people passing buy. Then he would pull one over and the first guy would finish, pull forward, and monitor speed passing his partner. Over and over and over. People really don’t get it.
There are a lot of drivers who don’t know the laws and are constantly surprised when they get pulled over and written up for tickets I hear about it all the time it’s quite funny really
“There are a lot of drivers who don’t know the laws…”
Ain’t that the truth! The law says that the speed limit in cities is 50km/h unless otherwise posted! Outside the city on highways it is 80km/h unless posted otherwise!
Typical speeds on 5th, 10th, 15th are 65 t0 70 km/h and often more! On some streets through residential areas (posted limit 50) they typically drive at 75 to 80! Including city vehicles and dump trucks full of gravel and pulling a loaded trailer! One that comes to mind is Highland Drive which is a race track! The RCMP drives by once in a while, buy it is not enough!
Should a police car have on there flashing lights when travelling over 70 k in a 60km zone?
When are the RCMP going to enforce the 60 kph speed limit through Hixon. The speeding public through Hixon is terrible, including most commercial traffic.
The traffic violations in the Hart area are becoming worse with each passing week. Also, most drivers on the Hart have no consideration for pedestrians. We seldom see the RCMP enforcing driver violations on the Hart. Where are they….relaxing in their 40 million dollar paradise we, the property owners of PG are stuck paying for?
Speeding aside, and I do agree with those against speeding in populated areas or in traffic, the point was to address those Numbskulls who do not slow down at the sight of emergency flashing lights. If nothing else, it’s about respect for others, you speeding past people working at the side of the road is putting them in danger.
As someone who has been involved in traffic control at emergency road incidents, I can relate personally to the danger to rescuers and workers.
Thankfully, 90% of drivers do slow down, it’s the 10% we are afraid of.
