Green Petition Gathers Over 26,000 Signatures

Sunday, September 14, 2014 @ 3:25 AM

Prince George, B.C. – A BC Green Party petition calling on the provincial government to agree to binding arbitration now has over 26,700 signatures.

Interim Leader Adam Olsen says it was launched the beginning of last week and says as a parent he understands the public’s frustration and why the petition has caught on.

“I understand there’s lots of political rhetoric between both sides and it’s difficult for parents and people to cut through it and get to the bottom of.”

He says he would prefer a negotiated settlement is reached now that both sides are talking again but says if one doesn’t come he’s hoping the petition will gather 50,000 signatures.

“Part of the important role petitions play is they are indicators for us to be able to determine where the constituency is at. This petition sends a message to everybody.”

Those wanting to sign the petition can do so at www.greenpartybc.ca.

Slick way to open yourself up for tons of Green Party propaganda after that.
The NDP does that too.

At first I thought our mayor was getting involved

LOL so did I slinky!

How many of the 26000 signatures are teachers?

This is turning into another HST referendum. The pressure is building on BC Liberals and the proposal for recalling Fassbender (that I also raised here last week) is being discussed in the social media, E.g.:

“On social media (Twitter and Facebook), many teachers are excitedly talking about launching a recall campaign against Education Minister Peter Fassbender in his riding of Surrey-Fleetwood. For such a campaign to succeed, 14,226 people in his riding must sign a petition within two months. To put that in perspective, slightly less than 18,000 people in total even voted in Surrey-Fleetwood in the last election (including 8,200 for Fassbender).”

This is just the snippy shallow focus of the average dipper. Don’t you think Fassbender has the approval of cabinet and the rest of the Government, including the premier? Why not target the entire government for an election? Oh-wait?

Oh and “prof”, obviously arithmetic isn’t your strong suit: 18,000-8200=9800, NOT 14,226. How do you wrap your head around that short fall?

I think prof was saying they need 14,226 out of around 18,000 who voted last election, on the petition. So they would need about 75% of the people who voted in the last election. No easy feat.

So if 50% + 1 is needed there must be 28,453 registered voters, but only 18,000 voted.

Yes @cougs79, 142226 is the required number of voters necessary to recall Fassbender and the two other numbers in the quotations are the previous election turnout results according to the article that I quoted.

Jimmy Hughes, in English language when you use a paragraph in quotation marks ” ” it means you have quoted from another source. For your info, I was the top student in arithmetic/geometry/trigonometry/… in K11 math competition in my hometown.

By the time they got around to organizing a recall the strike would be settled, kids back in school, and we would be on to other things.

In order to win a recall you have to have public support for your issue. I doubt if the teachers and the BCTF have this support.

According to Elections BC,you require 40% of the registered voters to sign the petition. As of the 2013 election there were 35672 registered voters in Peter Fassbenders Surrey-Fleetwood riding, therefore 40% of 35672 is 14268.8 of required voters to sign the recall petition.
