Tentative Deal Reached in Teachers Dispute

Tuesday, September 16, 2014 @ 5:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – It’s the news students and parents have been waiting for.

After three months on the picket lines, a tentative deal has been reached between the BCTF and the provincial government.

Mediator Vince Ready announced a deal had been reached at around 4:00 this morning but released no details.

As for when classes will return, it all depends on a ratification vote to be held Thursday.

Neither the BCTF or the provincial government have commented yet.

More details are expected to be released later today.

Nice.

Bend over taxpayers.

Axman, you are ever the optimist, just a little ray of sunshine!

What a laugh: And just last week it was all about “binding arbitration”. Once Iker stopped performing for the media, and his flock, the negotiations could begin. Nobody doubted for a minute who was be intransigent.

I think the vote on binding arbitration was a vwery good strategic move. It put pressure on the government side by making it clear the BCTF was willing to compromise and left it up to the government to do the same, which they now appear to have done.

It would have been funny if the binding arbitration had settled it heavily in favour of the government.

Now we can listen to the poor bleeding hearts who will never be happy. Bla bla bla

I hope the teachers got all the help they needed with classroom composition because I think there should be special schools for the children that cannot keep up with the others, whatever the reason my be. If they can’t put them in a special rooms them give the teacher a few, and not just one TA becasue if they don’t the education in our schools is sure to be down.

I do my best! :)

I know several teachers who have just quit over the years….they cannot do it all when the government took the TA’s away a few years ago. So, we could, in the future have a hard time finding teachers….now wouldn’t that be some problem.

I understand that the teachers get to vote on the deal on Thursday. I think that the public should get to vote on the deal too. Aren’t my tax dollars paying their salary?

Nonsense. So long as teachers are well paid (and they are!), have a great benefits packages (which they do!)and get oodles of time off (there’s no debating that!) there will always be an inordinate number of people looking to become teachers.

Yes can you imagine!
Now they have to teach for a living and earn their wage!

Get over it axman. You maybe way over paid as well. It’s easy to post.

……………………………………………………………………..
What .. did you forget to vote in the last provincial election?

“I understand that the teachers get to vote on the deal on Thursday. I think that the public should get to vote on the deal too. Aren’t my tax dollars paying their salary?”

Honestly that is the best idea I have heard through all of this. Also wouldn’t it be nice if teachers were evaluated based on their performance and respect from the students. Lots of bad teachers riding the B.C. gravy train these days.

I hope this ends the labour dispute and all get a fair deal (including Joe and Jane taxpayer) and this will be settled for more than a couple of years. And I doubt there will ever be a shortage of teachers in this country.

8: “Now we can listen to the poor bleeding hearts who will never be happy. Bla bla bla”

Ironic comment from a BCTF member/supporter.

Anyway, it’s good to see a deal has been reached the way it should be, at the bargaining table. Hopefully the deal is for a long term.

No JB. I own a contracting business. Nice try though.

Maybe I am, but my paycheque isn’t funded by the taxpayer. Besides, I said “well paid” not “over paid”.

And I’m not really sure what I’s supposed to get over? The fact that we have way too many people sucking at the taxpayer’s teat?

@maverick 1965… Great idea, because we all know teenagers as a majority are reasonable and would put a fair evaluation together for someone of authority. How would you like it if your performance was evaluated on some kid?

“And I’m not really sure what I’s supposed to get over? The fact that we have way too many people sucking at the taxpayer’s teat?”

good chuckle axman, keep them rolling!

Lol axman. Sure

Axman:You are spoiled thinking we are stupid. You are in one form or another reaping something from the tax payer to get your pay cheque.

Oh axeman is at it again, ruffling up the hen house. Silly axeman….

We all reap something for our taxes; that’s why we pay them. Unfortunately there are way too many people getting way too much from our tax dollars. If you pay 10 dollars a day into the tax system then turn around and pull 50 dollars a day out of the system you are relying way too heavily on everyone else. It’s not sustainable.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, “You are spoiled thinking we are stupid.” Just because you’re stupid doesn’t mean I’m spoiled. (And by you, I mean you generally, not you specifically.)

Just a question .. Taxpayers.. $500 more a year per person for teachers wages? Less …more? Just aking.

Lol. Ok

Spell check is a wonderfully tool.. “Asking”

Hopefully it is at least a ten year agreement. Putting up with this stuff once in a decade is already more than enough.

“@maverick 1965… Great idea, because we all know teenagers as a majority are reasonable and would put a fair evaluation together for someone of authority. How would you like it if your performance was evaluated on some kid?”

I am evaluated every 6 months are you?

Rats. Now what are we going to talk about? This is truly a sad day for bored bloggers.

“I am evaluated every 6 months are you?”

By a 13year old? “My teacher was a dick I should have gotten an A but I didn’t.” How about an 8 year old? “Timmy did you like your teacher?” “No, she made me do math, it was hard, I wanted to play kick ball”

In my job, I am evaluated by every customer, every time. I own my own business, people vote with their feet.

Mount Polly, coal mines, snow removal, trips to China.

“I understand that the teachers get to vote on the deal on Thursday. I think that the public should get to vote on the deal too. Aren’t my tax dollars paying their salary?”

Yes they are, they are also paying for the huge raises crusty gave her aids.. and for the huge bonuses Hydro, translink,bc ferries get.. didnt get to vote on those.. we all get one vote.. thats it.. btw.. the teachers all pay taxes..so they pay part of their wages as well 8)

Some people have, some don’t, some people get it, some never do. Common sense go’s along way my friend.
Treat and respect other like you would like to be treated and respected. No one like to be talked down to regardless of who you are or what ever age they maybe.

No matter how many times the BCTF plays the chicken-little card about how little johnny ain’t gonna learn nothin’ if the class size and composition isn’t addressed, they still find a way to soldier on if their salary is raised. How noble of them!

So lets say they ratify the deal by the end of the week. Kids won’t be back to school until Oct anyway. You have to give the teachers some prep time.

You might get over how well the teachers have it one day Jimmy, one day.

They sure do Jimmy… those 7 years with no raise really backs your point.. lol

They where asking for %1.6 gov was offering them %1.1 will be interesting to see where they ended up.

P Val

Whisper number 7.25% over 6 years or 1.2% per year.Well within “the zone”

I have No problem remunerating individual teachers based upon their competency. But I have a real big problem with the pigs guarding the grain silo.

Pssst Isis… clarks aids got %7.6 a year for 5 years… guessing out of this zone you are talking about ?

I’m sure the actual settelment will be the square root of dick over what should have been done last june. The differnce is there has been 3 months of war by the BCTF to justify their reason for being.

3 months of war…. wow.. talk to people in Iraq, Iran etc or maybe go visit them to see what war is.. you belittle their suffering by your ignorant statement

Oh that IS rich: a BCTF member or supporter decrying the use of hyperbole to make a point.

PVAL..the use of the word “war” is no more belittling than the BCTF supporter claiming they are being treated like ‘slaves’…

“Pssst Isis… clarks aids got %7.6 a year for 5 years” and I have no doubt works a heck of a lot harder than any teacher thought of doing.

But, but, but, according to the anti teacher gang here, there are hundreds if not thousands of new, up and coming teachers that would gladly replace the ones we have now and that our current ones should all be fired.

The public voted for the govt that now sits in the dictatorial towers in Victoria. Thats the only vote you get. After all they know whats best for everyone.

Still fighting the last election, Dragon? Would you be saying the same if your beloved NDP were in power?
