Iker Speaks to Tentative Agreement
Prince George, B.C. – BCTF president Jim Iker has finally addressed the tentative six year mediated settlement his union agreed to with the provincial government early this morning.
Speaking to the 41,000 BCTF members he says it was “their collective belief that allowed the deal to happen,” adding they are “his inspiration.”
He also thanked the thousands of students, parents and community groups that have “stood with us every step of the way.”
He says the vote will take place on Thursday and notes the deal has improvements to wages, benefits, preparation time, on call pay, and elimination of the E80 clause.
In addition he says the deal allows for several hundred new teaching positions each year, and a significant grievance remedy fund that will be used as a one-time payment to members.
“If this deal is ratified I know teachers will be thrilled doing what they love to do again – teaching and learning.”

Jimmy, you were inspired WHEN? LMAO
Where were you in July and August, Jimmy?
LOL….
“OH NO”! Now what is the 250 crowd going to do all day every day. Bring on the civic election.
No kidding hey Digit? The schills will be unemployed for only a short time.
Selling tools Grizzly selling tools!
He was there grizz fastburger wasn’t.
All the above comments are non sequitors. They are luckily they aren’t in school. Did the graduate?
@astro….Um….is that a French accent ?
Yikers singing koombaya in Kamloops summer conference…
The nurses union will be disappointed their funds didn’t get a super deal they could use in their negotiations as a stick. 500k down the tubes… Wonder how long they have to pay back the 8 million?
LOL Astro!
If you want to be a grammar and spelling nazi don’t make asinine comments.
“Did the graduate?”
LOL NoWay, yea the “i” in luckily” should be removed and changed to a “y” at the end of “the.”
Everyone makes mistakes Astro even editors! So it is best to let everyone think your an idiot instead of opening up your mouth to prove you really are one. ;)
And yes the “your” instead of you’re was on purpose.
So the question is how long will it take for the schools to open if the deal is ratified? Don’t the teachers need some prep time? The kids still need to clean out their desks from when the strike started.
And don’t forget the all important prod day on the first day of schools. They got to have that extra day off……developing……..professionally….
So this entire strike was about a raise and a 5000 dollar bonus. Class-size and composition were NOT addressed at this time and the contract will be re-opened upon the Liberals exhausting all their legal avenues. Everyone knew this was how this would play out. They didn’t get the bonus and they didn’t get anywhere near the raise they were looking for. Iker’s less than enthusiastic press conference had all the same ridiculous claims as one offered by Hamas.
Once again, Jimmy, the main sticking point for the BCTF was the inclusion of the E80 clause by the government. When that was removed a settlement was reached quickly. Please, do keep up.
Your likening Iker to Hamas is disgusting!
I thought Hamas was a hero of the dipper movement. I meant it as a compliment.
You thought wrong, much like everything else you write. and you meant it as a gross insult.
“…specially”? Are you sure about that “prof”? I get it now: You are being ironic with the moniker you have chosen. Like when a big guy is named “Tiny”.
Prof, had Iker done his job properly, there would have been no strike.
So no, he did his union a disservice and should hang his head in shame, but not with the ego he has.
