Doherty’s Departure His Decision Says Games Boss
Prince George, B.C.- The departure of Todd Doherty from his post as Director of Revenue Generation for the 2015 Canada Winter Games was Doherty’s decision says Games CEO Stu Ballantyne “He had an excellent opportunity to go to”
It was known that Doherty would consider seeking the Cariboo – Prince George federal Conservative riding nomination should the sitting MP, Dick Harris decide to retire.
That is also the riding Mayor Shari Green is believed to be seeking the Conservative nomination. While she hasn’t officially announced her intention to seek that nomination, she is not running for reelection for the municipal post this fall, and many of her supporters were elected to the executive of the riding association at the annual general meeting earlier this year.
As for Doherty, Games CEO Ballantyne says Doherty left the Games in good financial shape “We’re at 98% funded.” says Ballantyne, “We had a bunch of savings we took advantage of and we cut some things out of the budget so we took a million dollars out of the budget mid-summer to make sure we were fine.”
Ballantyne says that 98% mark means the Games are about a million below the overall goal, but he is not worried “We’re quite confident that with ticket sales and merchandise and all the other different programs we have in place including some sponsorship, that we’ll be fine.”
Doherty, like other employees for the 2015 Games, was on contract, and Ballantyne says financially, the Games and Doherty “Came to an arrangement”. While not being specific on that financial agreement, Ballantyne says both parties were happy “At the end of the day it worked out well for him and it worked out well for the Games.”
There will be no replacement for Doherty.
