Parent Rep “Ecstatic” with Tentative Agreement
Prince George, B.C. – A local parent representative is thrilled a mediated settlement has been reached between the BCTF and the provincial government.
“I’m ecstatic about this,” says Prince George District Parent Advisory Council president Sarah Holland.
“I think one of the things that’s really happened at this point is both parties have decided they do need a negotiated agreement because it’s far preferable to a legislated one.”
She adds she isn’t overly concerned that the three weeks of missed classes will have any lasting effect on students.
“I have confidence that our schools are going to be working very hard to make it up to the kids. There will be additional work required but I am sure our teachers, administrators, and staff will be working to make this as smooth as possible.”
If teachers ratify the tentative agreement today, schools are expected to re-open early next week.

Of couse she is happy, free daycare will be back.
Did you think that statement through before posting it? This woman is one of the most dedicated, active parents around. She’s involved with all aspects of her children’s education. As you must have missed this (her being a parent rep to the school board and all), I thought I’d point out to you, daycare is not what she’s looking for. It’s pathetic how freely the insults flow from the computer chair quarterbacks here. Ever dedicated your time to help the community and open yourself up to ridicule?
Contrary to what you say, I still think that the biggest complaint was no day care, closely followed by no school…and when yuo put them both together..you get???????upset parents
but every complaint I heard and read that was the indication and in that order, while throwing the BLAME on the teachers.
lets just say all of us will be glad when this is over for various reasons…
what union is next and will they be harassed as much?
I agree VestedInterest. Excellent comments.
Wow bcracer, you’ve certainly got your head up your butt early this morning, haven’t you!
Good job vested interest and Thank you Mrs Holland, your hard work on our students behalf for no money and lots of time is very much appreciated. Bcracer, some people do things for the greater good, others sit behind computer screens and complain, try doing something other than b*tch*ng about those who do. Again thanks to Mrs. Holland and all the other parents that volunteer for the good of the students :-)

Feeling a little disgruntled?
maverick…disgruntled? no, I had nothing to gain or lose whichever way this goes one way or the other. So in fact this could go on forever and not effect me one bit. And wether you like it or not, school is also free daycare along with being an education provider
.
I do know what I have heard and read and if you read my second comment you will get it!
I do have a little problem when people have to revert to personal attacks when they have no rebutal to someones comments however.
Would love to know why my comments are not as valid as anyones elses? just because it isn’t their way of thinking?
I have backed up my comments… wish others would argue the points rather than personal attacks.
Sorry I personally have never thought of school as daycare and I have had 4 children. So this maybe just your own personal point of view or maybe my head is clouded.
Personal attacks? again your own point of view if you allow your feeling to go there.
Sorry I can’t be there to give you a hug bcracer!
“Of couse she is happy, free daycare will be back.”
Isn’t that a personal attack?
Did you not start this thread by making a comment, with the sole purpose of discrediting Sarah Holland, A woman who puts works a huge amount of hours with no pay in order to try to improve our education system.
kolberg…never once intended to discredit her…..
trust me when I say this if I had intended to I would be very obvious… I don’t roll that way.
Rolling something!
bcracer… you said she was happy because she no longer had to care for her kids. Your position is indefensible, apologise for a personal attack. It really is that easy. A blanket statement like “Of course parents are happy, they have their free daycare back.” Is much more of an opinion.
As for the facts, I am happy that my two kids get to go back to school. Not because I don’t want them home, but, because I value their education. I also am glad because they enjoy school and I like to see my kids happy.
It is not the first time bcracer has had to back peddle and stand up to his pointless comments. It probably will not be the last.
Ok bc racer, I apologize for my personal attack on you, it was unwarranted and unnecessary, however, you did personally attack Mrs. Holland’s integrity and beliefs as a parent. I gave you that respect, now please give her the same. Also, why is it alright for you to use vague phrases like “every complaint I heard and read that was the indication and in that order, while throwing the BLAME on the teachers.” (which is not backing up a comment nor a fact)yet you complain loudly if others do it. I am sorry you have such limited reading material or such selective input, maybe if you broaden your horizons, you will realize that many people make up the world and rarely is “every complaint” about the same thing or “blame” the same target. Please stop using such wide brush to paint a diverse (good and bad)group. just my opinion
BCracer, I’m thinking you could have used the benifit of a TA.
