Cariboo Cougars Open Season With Victory
Prince George, B.C. – Steven Jandric scored three times, including twice on the power play in the third, to lift the Cariboo Cougars to a 7-4 win over the Valley West Hawks in their BC Major Midget Hockey League home opener at Kin 1 Saturday.
Jandric helped the Cougars erase a 4-2 deficit heading into the third and scored the go ahead goal at 6:39 of the final stanza. During the first two periods it was the Hawks who took advantage of Cougar penalties, going three-for-eight on the man advantage over the opening 40 minutes to build their lead.
The tables turned in the third as the Cougars scored three power-play goals in the first seven minutes to retake command of the game. The Cougars finished 3/8 on the PP, while the Hawks went 3/10.
The two teams meet again this morning at 11:15 a.m. to complete the weekend set.
