Prince George, B.C. – Some major agenda items highlight tonight’s inaugural 2014/15 School District 57 Board of Education meeting.

The Management & Finance Committee is bringing forward audited financial statements made in a report by KPMG for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014.

Management & Finance will also bring forward the Capital Project Amendment Bylaw for Highglen Montessori.

All three readings will be given tonight in relation to the devastating fire which destroyed the school back in April, 2013.

The Board is expected to pass the bylaw after the Ministry of Education approved up to $2,965,277 in capital funding under the School Protection Program to address costs associated with the fire loss.

The money will cover the $350,000 cost associated with the demolition of the building while the remaining $2,615,277 will be used for the renovation of the Gladstone Elementary School building.

Finally, the Eastline Activity Centre Community Agreement will be brought before the Board.

The Board is expected to approve the agreement between the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and School District 57 to cooperate in and coordinate the planning and programming of curricular, extra-curricular and community use of the centre.

The meeting gets underway at 7:00.

I would have thought that all school buildings are insured
It doesn’t appear so in this case,
fire coverage should have paid all those costs and the cost of rebuilding…
or did I miss something?
