Krause Seeks Post on UBCM Executive

Tuesday, September 23, 2014 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – When Prince George City Councilor Murry Krause returns from the Union of BC Municipalities convention, he is hoping he will have a new title.

Krause has put his name forward for the post as 3rd Vice President of the UBCM. Heading to the  annual convention, his was the only name put forward for that spot, “But people do have the opportunity to nominate themselves from the floor” says Krause “so  we’ll see if anyone else puts their name forward.”

As past president of the North Local Government Association, Krause   was on the UBCM Board in the past.   He has served three terms as “Director at large”.

Krause says while he has been asked in the past to run for the executive, it was the new length of terms that made it all seem the right time to make a move “Now that the terms are four years, if I’m successful in November (local election) I will have time to complete the commitment. That was always a concern, that with it being a three year term I wouldn’t be able to be vice president, President and past President, those kinds of roles that you would play.”

Krause says he has good solid support from the executive of the UBCM to put his name forward.

“I think it’s really important to acknowledge just how diverse the province is, and the goal for me is to really try and represent the whole province effectively as we (UBCM) can. We’ve got to be good solid advocates for our local governments with the Provincial Governments, so my goal  is to do that.”

Krause will find out be the end of this week if he has secured the position he is seeking. Voting for the UBCM Executive starts on Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to continue Friday morning if necessary.
