Rural BC to Have a Voice

Tuesday, September 23, 2014 @ 12:28 PM

Whistler, B.C.- A new rural advisory council will be established in B.C . The announcement was made today at the Union of BC  Municipalities annual convention.

The Council’s mandate will be to provide input to  the Province  on policy decisions that would best support rural communities.

The development of the advisory council was the first of 6 recommendations in the report “Supporting Rural Development: Creating a Voice for Rural British Columbia.”

The initial focus of the council will be to provide advice on:

* Avenues to support greater rural access to capital;

* Stronger business development support for rural entrepreneurs and businesses; and

* Moving forward on the Rural Dividend.

The Council will be made up of representatives from throughout the province with membership to be announced before the end of the year. Initially, reps will be given 2 and three year appointments.

So much Bs, we have Regional Districts which we pay for and who’s job was to look after the interests of rural areas, municipalities and Chambers of Commence what the hell do they do???? oh in PG we also have IPG for over a million a year. Lets not forget the countless associations representing Forestry, Mining, Construction, oil and gas and labour. We need another advisory group which will be made up of the same people and organizations give?? me a break.

What a joke,
“The Council’s mandate will be to provide input to the Province on policy decisions that would best support rural communities.”

Is the province obligated to listen or act on the input of policy?
Doubtful at best.

Exactly lildigger

Not enough votes in the rural areas for the Province to really care about

J.B.

“The statistics don’t lie. I know that’s not what people like to hear.”

As much as you would like to believe in your stats J.B. Stats can also be manipulated by propaganda of vacuous rumors which after time people believe to be true their fore make radical decision for the better of their families.

I’d like to see your proof, Maverick. Let’s see what kind of propoganda you subscribe to.

Life lessons J.B. watch it first hand from a little community I once lived in. People act out of fear, like I said before “rumors of school closures” in time people with children start to believe & leave which reduces the number of children that once attend school and over time others leave because now rumors become reality. That simplified enough for your brain to comprehend J.B.

Just another way of handing out our tax dollars to govt friends.

If it falls on deaf ears does it warrant the breath mustered to speak the words?

Dragonmaster nailed it.

Another **Council** of Liberal friends.

Mission statement for Northern Development Initiative Trust. (Set up with some $400 Million in money from the sale of BC Rail.

**To be a catalyst for northern BC to grow a strong diversified economy by stimulating sustainable economic growth through strategic and leveraged investments.** etc; etc; etc;

Mission statement for Initiative’s Prince George.

**IPG’s mission, together with local and regional partners, is to facilitate Prince George’s movement towards realizing our vision.**

1. Facilitate current business retention and expansion
2. Attract businesses to expand and diversity the economy
3. Advocate for increased workforce capacity
4. Market Prince George to facilitate retention and attraction of business and general population.

On and on it goes. Same sort of drivel from the Airport Authority, then of course we have as noted above the Regional Districts, plus the various cities and towns in the North doing the same thing.

Under the present system, we do not have a hope in hell of ever getting any reduction in taxes, nor any control over Governments and their spending.

Reminds me of a little known book called “Animal Farm”.

Palopu: “Under the present system, we do not have a hope in hell of ever getting any reduction in taxes, nor any control over Governments and their spending.”

Nailed it. The problem is that people don’t seem to want that either. Apathy rules the day.

“Life Lessons”, huh. So, in other words, anecdotal evidence. And I notice you ended it with a personal attack which means I must have hit a nerve.

Wasn’t a personal attack. Thought that was how everyone treated you J.B. didn’t want you to feel left out.

Another thought provoking response, Maverick.

That was sarcasm, in case you didn’t pick up on it.
