Prince George, B.C. – The Canada Winter Games are hosting some important guests this week.
13 Chef de Missions are in town to check up on preparations for next year’s games.
Chef de Mission for Team BC Rob Needham, says it’s their first trip back to Prince George in about a year.
“It’s our last chance to touch base before the games start. A chance to look at all the venues and the preparations and most importantly to meet with the host society about the status of all their preparations for athletes.”
He says the team of 13 Chef de Mission’s and their assistants will be looking at everything “that impacts the athletes and coaches, family and friends including restaurants and tourist sites.”
President and CEO for the Canada Winter Games Council Sue Hylland is also in town and says PG is in a good position to deliver a successful games.
“I haven’t been up here in the last year so what I’ve seen is just unbelievable. I’ve seen the key hubs of where the activities are going to take place. The changes to the Kin area are unbelievable and the Northern Sports Centre is going to be a perfect setting.”
As for challenges she admits the biggest will be providing adequate accommodations for everyone involved.
“We’re trying to figure out the best way to get as many people here as we can. The team is really trying to do some work around the home-stay program because families want to be here too to support their kids. It’s something they’ll (host society) will be working on the next six months for sure.”

Yah…..it would be horrible for influential folks from all over the country to come and get a GOOD impression of PG. Let’s try to make it as unwelcoming as possible 250. Good grief!

It seems that everything that is done to promote the city, to encourage visitors to the city, to raise our profile is poo pooed and crapped on!
I swear some of you bitch and whine just to hear yourselves bitch and whine! Oh and for your information, the Canada Games were applied for and won by a previous council,(Dan Rogers was the prime proponent) in fact several times removed. The commitment to host was made long ago, and we would look like a bunch of hillbillies if we had reneged on that commitment. You can’t drop the costs of hosting them on the council of today
