2015 Canada Games to Webcast Special Program

Thursday, September 25, 2014 @ 12:33 PM

Prince George, B.C.- There will be 30 students from BCIT’s broadcast program descending on Prince George for the Canada Winter Games, as they produce a new show that will be webcast  during the Games.canadagamestoday

The daily webcast program will feature highlights of events, behind the scenes exclusives about the 2015 Games athlete profiles and features on the 2015 Games activities and cultural festival.

The program “Canada Games TV Today” will be a half hour program webcast daily on the Canada Games portal www.Canadagamestv.ca  which is still under construction. It is the result of a partnership between the 2015 Canada Winter Games, BCIT and ViaSport British Columbia.

The program will be in addition to the more than 900 hours of sports coverage that will be produced by SportsCanada TV and webcast during the Games.

Associate Dean of BCIT Randy Singer, says the venture is a leading edge concept “Canada Games TV Today will tell the behind the scenes stories about athletes, their families,  the Games, what goes on to make the Games happen and about B.C.’s north.”

Singer says the experience for BCIT students will be immeasurable as they will be just a month or so away from graduation and will have an opportunity to work alongside broadcast professionals who will be covering the Games.

ViaSport’s Bill Wooley has two teenagers who were members of Team BC at the Games in Halifax “From that, we’ve seen the Canada Games experience.  We’ve seen the eyes wide open, the anticipation of those athletes  and coaches as they walk into opening ceremonies, the fans cheering them on. The intensity of the competition and, to  coin an old term, the agony of defeat because not everybody  gets onto the podium. But it’s those stories, those trials and tribulations to make it this far, that are what we want to capture.  And then we want to capture what it takes to make these Games, the community, the volunteers,  the countless hours of effort  it took to bring these games to light.  That’s what we want to showcase because that’s what the Canada Games experience is.”

The webcast program will be archived  on the website so  the program can be watched at any time.
