“I joined the Reform/conservative movements because I thought we were somehow different, a band of Ottawa outsiders riding into town to clean the place up, promoting open government and accountability. I barely recognize ourselves, and worse I fear that we have morphed into what we once mocked.”

“A return to balanced budgets, limiting the size and scope of government, the aforementioned open and transparent operation of government, belief in markets and eliminating corporate subsidies are all matters of importance to my constituents but have all been sacrificed to the altar of electoral calculation.”

7 Things Harper Doesn’t Want You To Know About The China Trade Treaty (And A Few He Does)

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/09/17/canada-china-fipa-facts_n_5836348.html

Have a great day!!!!

Up with the chickens, as they say. Good morning everyone!
I was just wondering why, all these people threatening others, like the jihadists, people in riots, extremists and rebels, have to cover their faces? Are they too afraid to stand up and be counted? They must be ashamed in some way, to show others who they really are.
That takes legitimacy and sort of throws it out the window, wouldn’t you say? Chickens and cowards, I say.
You would think that if someone has an honest cause, they would want people to know who they are and what they stand for.

The same could be said about our Prime Minister. What a disgrace. Has his minions run a evasive block in Parliament ranting on and on how the other parties are not loyal to Israel when they ask for information on Canada going to war in Iraq… meanwhile Harper is in New York at Goldman Sacks giving a speech to bankers and makes the announcement that we will be increasing our military commitment to Iraq without any input from Parliament. To me this shows disdain for our democratic institutions and a loyalty to his true constituency of international bankers. I believe we need to be involved in putting down isis, but it needs to be done through the democratic process.

Harper’s whole foreign policy is a disgrace. Supporting the coup in Kiev, the subsequent ethnic cleansing and indiscriminate missile attacks on the Eastern Russian speaking cities, and the isolation of Russia… has all played right into the hands of a new nationalism that is taking shape in Russia in which we will all regret fostering. It will make the cold war look tame, because this time around Russian leadership will have the support of its people.

Latest news I’ve read is Igor Strelkov the leader of the self proclaimed Peoples Republic of Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine is now in Russia promoted as a national hero. Putin came to power under the banner of the ‘united Russia party’, which is full of Russian oligarchs and their western leaning allies. Now Putin has divided it into two parts, the ‘Eurasian sovereignists’ lead by Putin and aligned with China, Iran and the BRICS… and the old camp of ‘Atlantic integrationists’ lead by Putin protege Medvedev. All that remains is the purge that is now taking place.

Putin with 85% support in the Russian polls has been able to define the old ‘united Russia’ party as aligned with the West and is now promoting his new ‘all-Russia People’s Front’ which is said to stand above party lines, but is on the cusp of becoming not only an official party, but rather the governing regime of Russia with the likes of Igor Strelkov as one of its leading policy makers. Once the final phase of this party is implemented I believe Russia will be on the offensive and no longer allowing events to be defined by the West. Putin has already issued a warning to the governing ‘united Russia’ party that they all need to leave if they will not fall into line. Putin fears they could turn on him and he risks ending up like Gaddafi he he doesn’t now act to consolidate his hold on power and protect Russian sovereignty. Putins replacement government will be hyper nationalist and hyper hawkish and he has the full backing of the Russian people (unlike during soviet times)… a population that would rather back Putin than western backed instant billionaire oligarchs.

Thanks to the likes of Harper he has helped set the stage for a political transformation of Russia from a nation that was working with the West, to one that has the masses on its side in a anti-west fight that has turned a pacifist Russia into a soon to be roaring bear.

All and all its a sad state of affairs for Canadian foreign affairs, shameful, wrong headed, and leading us down a dark path of war and incrimination and deceit that will not end until we get moral leadership here at home first. I don’t think Trudeau could do much better, compromised by the same forces. I’ve never voted ndp, but at least their leader in Muclair seems to understand the nuances of war and foreign affairs and the dignity that is becoming of our democratic institutions in the process for involving Canadians in far off conflicts.

TL;DR

Keep Right Except to Pass! And turn your lights on! I lost count of the number of people driving in the dark and the rain with their lights off. The first thing I do when I see a vehicle with their lights off is check to make sure mine our on. It’s not difficult.

And if you’re going to drive like an idiot -weaving in and out of traffic and cutting people off- it’s probably not to smart to do it in a company vehicle. The guy driving the “PG Spring and Accessories” pick up down the Hart every morning is one of the most dangerously aggressive drivers I see out there. I’d never do business with him; if he drives like that does he work like that?

Does anyone know if posts with links in them are being phased out on this website?

editor’s note:
posts with links are not being phased out, however the new system recognizes them as spam and won’t let them appear.

Does anyone know if posts with links in them are being phased out on this website?

———

You can still post your links but it looks like they’ve removed the hyperlink ability. It doesn’t take much time to follow a link.

If the predictions of 1 million being infected with Ebola by Jan 2015 none of that will matter Eagleone.

So we can’t even post links the long way? Maybe Ben doesn’t like people navigating away from his site or the web site developer doesn’t know how.

Things that make you go hmmmm!

DrJudyWood

Well the long way still works!

Posting pictures would be nice

To reply quotes would be nice to.

Lol Axeman. I know the truck. He cut in front and stopped me one time with road rage on Noranda. Said I cut him off and was impeding him on purpose. I thought we were going to get in a fight. I told him I was just making a
left turn and to slow down, then he went speeding off. Came across as a jerk.

bet no one noticed less News on this site due to the larger fonts.. or did the older ones complain they couldn’t read the print so they made it larger for them???

When it comes to local issues, we are being given the silent treatment by those who are running for Mayor and Council. We are getting all the usual phrases and hype, but we have not, as yet, been getting any specifics.

We need some discussion on cutting costs, reducing or holding the line on taxes, city administration on stonewalling both our elected representatives, and the general public, and a plan for this City for the next 10 years.

We need someone to look into the Citys land purchasing and sales policy. One wonders how much land was bought and sold over the past 10 years and where the hell the money went.

We must drive down the Hart around the same time axman – I see this yahoo most days too. No point in phoning as he is the boss so I guess all we can do is shop elsewhere…

Axeman’s comment on drivers needs some applause, I was passed on a double yellow by a truck and I was already speeding. One more note because I work odd hours the logging trucks cutting the corner at hwy 16 and Upper Fraser road ( they turn left into the west bound entrance of upper Fraser to hwy 16) having found myself staring at a large rad of a truck before, I just like the Russians have installed a night vision camera on my car, because when you have a two vehicle crash and one’s a logging truck the car loses. At least there will be a record.

Did you ever think of calling the POLICE about the aggressive driver????
That would be a solution too. and not shopping at the Company!!
Heads up to the police!!!

Gone are the days of Lester Pearson, Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien who made sure that Canada as a sovereign nation made its own foreign policy and followed it! Now it is just a matter of picking up the phone and saying: Yessir, how soon, how much and how many!

Calling the police is a good place to start.

You can also call the commercial vehicle inspectors…

Editor: Thank you for the response. Hopefully this glitch can be resolved in due course. I would think with the world presently on “extreme news overload” your website will do extremely well. The ability to add links to one’s posts is helpful to the communication process.

The new system does allow hyperlinks. It just uses the standard HTML syntax, not the idiosyncratic [url] tag that the old system used. Here is a
tutorial on how to make links.

I usually don’t see cvse or the mounties out on the road at 3:45 am, and when I call I have to leave a message, then it becomes too much hassle.

Some of you have more faith in the police then I do. :)

I heard that a bunch of cashiers at wal Mart quit at once and walked off the job a few days ago. Anyone see that?

In my experience the RCMP do respond to reports of dangerous drivers. One time I was driving from Little Fort to Kamloops at night and came up behind a guy who was wandering all over the road. I eventually managed to pass him, found a pay phone in Barriere, and called in a report to the RCMP They left a message on my home phone the next day saying they had stopped the guy, discovered that he wasn’t drunk but exhausted, and got him checked into a motel.

I’m testing the capabilities of the new system. Let’s see if it likes exotic characters: ᑕᗸᒡ 日本語

Is anyone having problems with the new recycling service? Mine hasn’t been picked up since it started.

Stillsmoking said – “bet no one noticed less News on this site due to the larger fonts.. or did the older ones complain they couldn’t read the print so they made it larger for them???”

Yes – Old Guys with failing eyes prefer to have fonts that can be read easily.

Young kids like yourself will be in our position (if you survive) at some point, way down the road.
Enjoy the fact that the stories are easy to read…..

Editor’s note:
There is no “less news” on this site, just a different service (Canadian Press) contributing to the mix.

If you have trouble with the recycling service and don’t know when is your day, every 2 weeks, to put out the bins….. visit their website for Prince George, scroll down to “Address Search” and put in your address. Then you will know the pickup date.

Any update on the marauding Wright Creek Road grizzly bears?

billposer:”Here is a
tutorial on how to make links.”

Well, where is it? :-)

Editor’s note:
the links are embedded in the phrase, so click on the words that appear in green.

Prince George , I get tears in my eyes when I think of where our Canada has gone. We used to have a foreign investment review board but that’s all gone. I cant imagine what will happen if we get a free trade deal with China;. Guess I’ll have to check the sight that Charles has given us.

The big problem is will anyone have the balls to try and rectify some of the ill’s in our trade agreements.

As a note we have just bought some kitchen appliances all made in the good old USA. Is China our next supplier?
Cheers

“Any update on the marauding Wright Creek Road grizzly bears?”

I don’t think Opinion250 covers the music scene. Try the Entertainment section of the Citizen. :)

High wages = high manufacturing costs = ship raw material to china for process at an affordable price.
Hey isn’t that what the states did? How did that work for them?

Retired 02, since NAFTA the USA has sued Canada about 400 times (CBC experts discussion) and Canada has lost in every instance, paying many millions in penalties. A free trade agreement with China would mean that Canada gives Chinese (state owned) companies the same rights and status as Canadian companies. It would be a nightmare dealing with any disputes as the Chinese CEOs are state appointed by the politbureau and what do we know about Chinese law except that it is probably inscrutable to foreigners and disputes usually drag on for years.

One reason manufacturing left the US and Europe for Asia is the skyrocking cost of energy because of idiotic so called very expensive idiotic green energy policies. Same reason manufacturing is bailing out of Ontario.

Look up the beheading caused by a fired employee in the states. Touche subject considering the present conflicts.

The link at the end of my post is to another website which shows you how to make html links.

If you click on the top “Try It Yourself” box on the web page you get taken to a another page where you can practice your links to make sure they work.

On the practice page remove all of the text which is in the left hand box, enter your link in that space, and then click on “Submit”

If your going to be constantly slamming a topic, at least learn to spell en anglais.

Have a nice day.

phodgson: When you call the police, ask for “dispatch” as soon as they answer. They will transfer you to the dispatcher, who will take your information and it gets acted upon as soon as they can. It has always worked for me, 24 hours a day.
Who ever acts on the call, usually calls you back and tells you what they were able to do about it.

I’m about to slam a topic and that is the whining about bad drivers. Bad drivers will ultimately meet their waterloo. If you continue to watch for bad drivers ultimately you will also become a bad driver or may be you are already one.

Drive defensively that means that you have to watch where YOU drive and what your doing and the first rule of defensive driving is to be courteous. Don’t watch the next driver just look after your own space.

The idea that the inside lane is the the fast lane and the outside lane is the slow lane is so much bull. The inside lane is the through lane and the outside lane is the off-on lane. And if your driving try to drive the speed limit that is posted and the cops will not be on your butt if your 10% over the posted speed.
Cheers

Retired I guess you don’t pay attention to the freeway signs in your neck of the woods about slow traffic stay right. Cheers

Thanks NORM2, I didn’t realize recycling pickup was every two weeks.
And LOKI – before you slam others for their spelling, check your use of apostrophes.

So a 10-15 metre crack was discovered in the mount polley tailing pond 4 years ago and nothing was done but hide the report in Williams lake. So more proof you can buy Clark with a nice big donation and the liberals will sell our environment away to big companies.

Retired is right, Worry about your own driving and not about what others do, just stay out of there Way and you may see another Day.

So out west you make up your own roadrules as you go ignoring traffic signs.

Here is a report that won’t be seen in warmist biased Citizen.

There, they’re, their, too, to, two, your, you’re, wear, where….. I done got a grade ten education but I do know the difference between these similar words. Rock on Jethro Bodine, he done got a grade six education lolololol.

Retired 02’s comment shows that he has little or no understanding on how to drive on a 4 lane divided highway and perhaps it is time to put a restriction on his license and limit him to driving side streets,2 lane roads, glass store fronts and farmer’s markets.

Much as a divided highway makes travelling safer as it separates vehicles travelling in opposite directions, having slower traffic in the right lane does somewhat the same with vehicles travelling at different speeds. Poking along in the left lane is just as likely to cause an accident as speeding.

Anyone know what the digging is about right at the Playhouse?

Not near or behind the Playhouse but right at the Playhouse..

Been going on for a couple of days now. It is city property is it not?

Acrider55.

If correct spelling/grammar skills were a mandatory requirement for posts on this blog, 90% of us would not be allowed to post on this blog.

Thanks for that Charles, just kidding around still laughing, have a great weekend everyone.

After seeing Guesswhat’s question I also have a question for the board.

In regard to that condo/townhouse close to Ferry and Westwood where the fire was approximately 6 months ago:

Have the Fire Inspectors determined the cause of the fire, and

(I think) I see some new wood in the spot the fire was, are they planning on fixing/rebuilding that structure?

To the hit and run MORON that backed into my MINT black 2004 Dodge Dakota quadcab 4×4 [85,000k] and caused $1289.56 in damage in Saveon-on parking lot on the Hart Thursday afternoon that I am not insured for ,I hope like HELL you go there and may KARMA come to you in Quadruple!

Retired 02, from one defensive driver to another, Good Comment!

Why aren’t you insured for it?

” If you have ICBC collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible, or have no collision coverage, you pay the first $750 toward the repair or replacement of your vehicle or property.”

Looks like you can file a claim even though you might not have collision!

Noway

I carried full coverage with Canadian Direct for nine plus years at $1000.00 deduct[if its my fault I will pay the first $1000.00.About four years ago hit and run claim was changed from comprehensive [ $300.00 ]deductible,, to collision $1000.00 deductible.ICBC will repair it for $750.00 deductible. This was not MY FAULT.$750.00 is a big part of my PENSION

Untill today I did not know the hit and run claim was changed from comprehensive to collision.Had I been notified of this change I would have lowerd my collision deductible.

Hit and runs suck, but if you don’t pay the deductible, who is supposed to?

I tend to think if one parks a little further down the parking lot I can work off that extra tire I carry around with me. It makes no sense to all crowd in close to the entrance and then have to worry about the truck getting side swiped or otherwise. I’ve been lucky though… I would be furious to come out to find I’ve been hit.

A friend of mine had his vet side swiped at a local Chinese restaurant. He was parked in the furthest spot he could find… the delivery driver came in asking who drives the white Corvette….

I see MP Paul Colandra made a tearful apology today for his shameful actions disgracing the Parliament earlier in the week. To little to late. Hopefully his constituents that voted for him are ashamed as well. No doubt he was only parroting what Harper wanted him to say, but that is what one gets when they are an elected MP representing this country and they opt not to think for themselves. It was almost treasonous the disgrace he made of a legitimate concern by the leader of the opposition for the Queen about a matter as serious as sending our young off to a horrendous theater of war.
