Cowboy Ranch Looks to Expand Hours and Seats

Monday, September 29, 2014 @ 3:58 AM

Prince George, B.C.- The Cowboy Ranch pub  will be before Prince George City Council this evening, asking for support  to increase its liquor seating  from  the current 80 seats  to 268 and to  increase its hours of operation.

The proposal calls for hours of operation to be increased at the Queensway establishment as well, changing the  closing time to  2 a.m.  all week,  which is  an hour later than the Friday & Saturday closing time, and two hours later than the  Sunday to Thursday closing time.

Staff recommend the City send a  resolution to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch calling for the  proposal to be denied.

In addition to the report on the enhanced no smoking bylaw, ( see other story)   Council will be asked to take note of two notices of motion.

Councilor Brian Skakun says he will introduce a notice of motion calling for a re-think on the  RV parking bylaw. ( see previous story)  He says he has just  learned bylaw services plans to enforce the bylaw which prevents people from parking  large RV’s  in their private drive.

Another notice of motion will come from Councillors Frank Everitt, Brian Skakun and Garth Frizzell calling for council to  approve a new system for reporting out  payments made to consultants.  The request comes in the wake of learning the City spent more than $130 thousand dollars  to a consultant to learn that the City’s fleet was  old, and  new measures needed to be taken to  improve  snow clearing.

The motions will actually be dealt with at the next regular meeting of Council.

How would they ever fit that many people in there? We went there to watch a band play and was it ever crowded then, I couldn’t imagine more people in that place!

They would takeover more of the bilding, open up into where the liquor store was.

..building..

since it ultimately has to do with the sale of alcohol I am sure the city will okay it like they have all the other applications involving alcohol sales.

Grant the licence, City staff are not thinking about what the want its their own personal view. We have UNBC,Collage think all they want to do is wander around the mall?

If the staff says to refer it to the lcb then council will approve it.

NO ONE tells council what to do!

lildigger has SPOKEN..

AGAIN

I guess it depends who owns this Cowboy Ranch, how much police attendance there is, and what the neighbors feel about it. Appears on the face of it that someones trying to turn it into a Cadillac.

OMG – people might want to have fun! Quick city council, shut it down like every other proposal. Then you can get back to harassing people about their RV parking…

Nothing in this town anymore for night clubs is there? Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn’t night clubs attract young people to maybe want to stay or possibly live in Prince George? or should they book a trip to Vancouver or Mexico to have a good time? Or is it fun drinking and dancing = DRUGS!
Nice to see Councillors having to answer for things like consulting when something of that nature should have had the expertise all ready in place to make the decisions on the necessary changes or purchases.

I remember not so long ago the fun that many of us that are just shy over fifty, had a blast when you could go downtown on 3rd and 2nd ave and hit aleast 5 cabarets, and then go to Bino’s for a very early snack with all the people you went a had fun with. Prince George in this regard is sadly lacking in entertainment for the just shy under 50. I think this is a great idea to at least let our younger people enjoy what so many of us did not so long ago, these people who enjoyed fun were also employed at the City of Prince George, let it happen and stop being old.

right on PG girl

They tried to open another cabaret in the old Odeon location but the parking lot behind is slated for condo development within the OCP and other community plans that cannot be changed (sarcasm indeed) and a bar that close would be detrimental to the sale of the property so that was its main holdback.
This location may be ok for expansion as long as there are no city owned properties nearby which would be ‘negatively’ affected

bcracer: “since it ultimately has to do with the sale of alcohol I am sure the city will okay it like they have all the other applications involving alcohol sales.” – As slinky wrote above as one example, there are plenty of applications that are denied.
Millman: “Grant the licence, City staff are not thinking about what the want its their own personal view. We have UNBC,Collage think all they want to do is wander around the mall?” – HUH? What’s a Collage?

“HUH? What’s a Collage?” It’s where you go to learn how to spell College. (ducks high velocity rotten tomatoes) :D
