Exhibit Offers Glimpse Into History of Indo-Canadian Community
Prince George,B.C. – Those wanting to learn about the history of Indo-Canadians and their role in the forest industry are encouraged to head over to the Railway and Forestry Museum.
“It stretches back to the challenges that faced pioneers,” says curator Katherine Carlson.
“To understand this, we had to look at the history of what it meant to take the initial journey, away from the familiar and into the unknown.”
She says the exhibit also features a series of interviews with prominent Indo-Canadians from Prince George’s Sikh community and also looks at innovations in forestry as well as the history of labour movements and unions.
“The goal of the exhibit is to honour and recognize eleders in the Indo-Canadian community who participated in the forestry industry in the 1960’s and 70’s.”
A History of Indo-Canadians in the Forest Industry: A journey of Challenges and Triumphs from Early Pioneers to the 1960’s and 70’s runs from now until November 22.
Those planning to attend should note the museum’s winter hours are Tuesday to Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What about the Hindu community. They came long before the Sikh’s. Remember the boat load that sat off our coast and we would not let them come ashore.
Cheers
