End of Era for BC Federation of Labour
Prince George, B.C.- A shockwave is rolling through the labour movement in B.C. with the news Jim Sinclair will not seek re-election as the President of the BC Federation of Labour .
Sinclair issued a letter earlier today, saying his decision not to seek re-election was not easy nor was it taken lightly “ it is the right decision at the right time” writes Sinclair.
He has been at the helm of the BC Federation of Labour for the past 15 years and while he will not be seeking the post to lead the BC Federation of Labour, says he will “ continue to fight for a progressive and principled trade union movement that is not afraid of taking risks and fighting back”, but does not say how he plans to achieve that promise.
United Steelworkers Local 1-424 President Frank Everitt says he was “saddened to hear of Jim’s decision, Jim has done an excellent job of advocating for the working people and all people of British Columbia.”
Sinclair signed off his letter with “See you on the line, wherever that may be.”
The BC Federation of Labour will select it’s next President at its convention in November.

Now this is definitely one whiny wimpy excuse of a man that I certainly won’t miss seeing. Wouldn’t hire this loser if he was the last applicant on the planet!! But that’s just my opinion, of which I am entitled!
Hart Guy, although I don’t know you, I can say my opinion being you wouldn’t be able to walk one step in his shoes and have no idea what this man has accomplished for workers from those with no representation to those being exploited. In my opinion your are absolutely clueless.
Millman55 wins. Go home Hart Guy, you’re drunk.
“…but does not say how he plans to achieve that promise.”
He’s going to start working for a well-heeled capitalist like Pattison! :)
Unions are, after all, the biggest of big business.

What a sad opinion. I guess you like sucking up to the big Boss. It is union labour that has brought our country to the present prosperous state. We would probably sill have labour camps working form a meal to survive if it wasn’t for our labour unions.
Cheers
Good riddance Sinclair
Actually I believe that religion is the biggest, followed by government, then unions.
Do you see a pattern?
This is a guy who lived very well on the backs of his members.
Pretty sad sign off… see you on the picket line? IMHO
Funny how HartGuy put that statement about his opinion in his post. It’s almost as if he knew he was going to be attacked by the union faithful.
Anyone care to comment on how private companies now have record low union membership wile public employees have a strong organized membership in unions?
Why is it that we need such strong tactics for what are admittably, by every statistic, the workers who are paid by taxes have better holidays, pensions and benefits?
Sorry Johnny Belt, was not an attack just a comment and opinion about a couch potato

It’s quite simple actually. The people who negotiate with public sector unions make sweetheart, unrealistic deals out of fear of losing votes. And, when you have the (apparent) endless pockets of the taxpayers to suck the money from it’s easy to give it away for political gain.
Touche Axman
He stood for what he believes in! Good for him!
Loki: “Actually I believe that religion is the biggest (business) , followed by government, then unions.”
I agree, except that I would put warmongering ahead of the *three amigos* mentioned.
X2 Millman55, well said!
I can say the same about you Hart Guy, but that’s just my opinion, of which I am entitled!
Thanks for all you’ve done Jim Sinclair. Job well done!
I heard a union leader once say that profit for a co. is unpaid labour.
I also heard a union employee once say if the sawmill screws with us, we will make them lose millions. I never understood why the average union worker hates the co. he works for. Entitlement maybe? Cant be fired maybe?
Hey, I’m entitled to my opinion! If you don’t agree, that’s your right! I’m sure that some of you obviously have pictures of good ol’ Jim Bob framed and hanging over your bed. If that’s want you want, then go for it!
What I find interesting is opinions can be expressed such as “He stood for what he believes in! Good for him!” and yet my opinion, of which I am entitled, results in some suggesting that I am clueless, drunk, and a couch potato! Haha, thanks for making me laugh!
I have worked in both a Union and a non-union environment, and now being self-employed, I am 100%, absolutely 100% sure that I put in a harder work day than those Union members that see fit to take offence with my opinion!
Jim Boy’s gone, boo freakin hoo!!
A job well done jim, enjoy retirement. People say what have unions done for me. Well with out unions we would not have the following.
Heath care
Vacation
Stat holidays
Dental
Paid overtime
Workers comp
Maternity leave
Heath and safety
Minimum wage
Pension
The unions blazed all these fronts for the betterment of all
Its unfortunate that there are so many that do not know the history of our union movement. The conditions that existed in our mines and in the forest industry where workers slept in muzzle loaded bunk bed. There was no safety programs , no safety committee. The accident rates were atrocious.
You sit back and don t know what you are talking about all you know is the garbage that you have picked up from an employer that’s beating the crap out of there employees with low wages and his hours.
If it was not for our unions there would be no minimum wage or a Labour Act to protect you from unscrupulous employers., All I can say all the nay sayers on this blog are probably some two bit employer that takes advantage of his/her employees every day.
And public servants are not the only unionized employees . It is those union employees in Industry that have given us the life style that you live today.
Best of luck in your retirement Jim.
Cheers
Political Justice, Thanks for the support. Iknow Jim personally and he is a class act guy.
Cheers
Let’s not forget how Jim had a part in helping to drive the clearly unaffordable staffing and salary levels in our over-compensated public sector where wages are benefits are beyond the scope of reasonable!
Also, let’s not ignore the MASSIVE unfunded pension liabilities that will be a major burden on us for many, many years. Think not? Think Greece! Think Detroit!!
Thanks for nothing Jim! Not sad to see you go! Don’t let the door hit you on the butt on your way out!!
Interesting to see the bizarre censorship that takes place on this site. It appears that any link -whether if be to another news site or not- is removed.
Jim Sinclair did not just work for union members. An example is the death of 3 mushroom workers and the severe brain damage of 2 others in Langley in 2008. None of these workers were unionized. Jim Sinclair worked many, many hours to make this travesty, public. He also spent a lot of time supporting the families, in particular the Phan family whose husband and father, Michael was left with severe brain damage. Jim mentored Tracy Phan, a young teen at the time that her dad was injured, to speak out about the accident. A fine man is Jim.
hart guy and johnny belt you two should be getting together and trying to count up to 62 billion because that’s where your libs have us in the red. I think you two should be more worried about the current status of lng or non status because that’s where your libs are taking us straight into the gutter. I cant believe you two educated individuals think that krusty is the smart one, I sometimes wonder about you two smart ones.
Hart Guy-I see your self employed now so how are you making out with cpp and do you still paying into the Union pension plan?
oldman1, I make my CPP contributions in full every year. In fact, considering the taxes that I pay, perhaps I’m paying yours and a few others as well.
I worked in a Union job a very long time ago. After a few years of working in an environment where excellence was not rewarded, initiative was stifled, and mediocrity became the norm, I had enough and I got the heck out of there. Working with people who’s greatest concerns were coffee time and clock watching got old fast, real fast!! Got out, transferred my pension plan to a personal RRSP and now I control my own destiny!
Would never and could never, ever, EVER work in a Union environment again! I value drive, initiative, perseverance, dedication, commitment and integrity far too much to work in an environment where everybody works down to the lowest possible common denominator! As far as I am concerned, anybody “coasting” through their job, should be sent packing and someone who actually wants to work should be hired to replace them. That simply doesn’t happen in Jim Sinclair’s “Union” world!
oh ice, don’t kid yourself… I often wonder about you, haha!
I’d be willing to be that JB wonders about you as well but to be sure, perhaps you might ask him!!
Hartguy for Priminister!!
make him court jester. can hardly imagine working with someone like that again taking the winter off now that it isn’t ice cream season, time to board up the shack.
X2 ice!
I always look forward to the wisdom of ice (mattyc). He’s not so good at election predictions, but nobody’s perfect.
Hart guy you live in a perfect world. how s it that you have time to give us all his good on this site.
Cheers
” I value drive, initiative, perseverance, dedication, commitment and integrity far too much to work in an environment where everybody works down to the lowest possible common denominator!”
I have never heard a single sentence so precisely describe the problem of a union environment… Bravo HG
Just this week had a union guy show me his commitment – he took an extra few minutes to clean up because “if he stayed till quarter past he gets paid an extra half hour of overtime”
Nice mindset
