Games Plans Volunteer Road Trip

Friday, October 10, 2014 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B.C.- The 2015 Canada Winter Games needs you.

There are about 4,000 people who have  registered to  volunteer during the  Games, but not all have completed the process.  “We need all  who have registered to complete their profiles” says Games  Manager of Communications, Alyson Gourley-Cramer.  Completing that profile includes getting a criminal record check, and  folks won’t be allowed to volunteer without  having completed those profiles.

The invitation for volunteers is being spread throughout  the region,  with the Games  partnering with Pacific Western Transportation across BC to provide transportation to and from Prince George  for volunteers.

Five Bus routes have been established to allow volunteers from the Okanaga, lower mainland and throughout Northern B.C.  take part in   the Games.

The five routes offered are:

  • Route one: Fort St. John- Dawson Creek- Mackenzie- Chetwynd- Prince George
  • Route two: Terrace- Smithers- Houston- Burns Lake- Fraser Lake- Vanderhoof – Prince George
  • Route three: Vancouver-Burnaby-Surrey-Abbotsford-Chilliwack-Prince George
  • Route four: 100 Mile House- Hixon-Williams Lake- Quesnel-Prince George
  • Route five: Kelowna- Enderby-Vernon-Salmon Arm-Kamloops-Clearwater-Valemont-McBride-Prince George

Week one of the Volunteer Road Trip runs Sunday, February 15, 2015, until Saturday, February 21, 2015 (route four will leave on Sunday, February 22, 2015), and week two runs Sunday, February 22, 2015, until Sunday, March 1, 2015.

On each route, the bus will pick volunteers up on Sunday morning before travelling to Prince George. On the Monday following the travel day, volunteers will receive their 2015 Games uniform, accreditation and orientation prior to their first shift.

“We hope that residents across BC will fill the buses and join us on Team 2015,” says Games CEO  Ballantyne.

This is beginning to look like a mess. Bussing volunteers from as far away as indicated above??? Must be short of local volunteers.

Also because of the shortage of Hotel rooms, they will be bussing people back and forth from Vanderhoof, and Quesnel, which means night time driving in winter conditions .

This doesn’t look too good for Prince George when we have to go outside for volunteers because we can’t even find 4500 PG residents to volunteer.

Sounds like a lot of desperation by the Winter Games people…
no doubt this cost factor wasn’t thought of…
and they staill claim to be on budget..
is their budget like PG city… they account for half and take the rest out of the citizens pocket afterwards?
