UNBC Student Takes Run at School Board
Prince George, B.C. – 21 year old UNBC student and activist Eric Depenau has thrown his hat into the ring to become a School Trustee in District 57.
And despite the fact he’s likely the youngest candidate in the race, he says his experience as Chairperson of CNC’s Student’s Union would serve him well if elected.
“I’ve seen at the national level with the Canadian Federation of Students that the issues that post-secondary students have didn’t appear later in life. They carried that with them since elementary and secondary school.”
Depenau says putting “band-aids on things at a higher level” isn’t the appropriate route and says “we need to meet these challenges at the very beginning.”
That being said he’s not running on a particular issue.
“I don’t have a pet project in mind. For example I’m not trying to stop something from going through.”
He says he’s just interested in seeing the board is managed “properly, equitably, and accountably” to ensure “the best possible outcomes for young learners.”
