Slocan, B.C.- The search for 45 year old Peter DeGroot in Slocan  is over.

250News has learned DeGroot died this afternoon .

Details of his death  are not readily available, but the Independent Investigations Office is expected to  take jurisdiction on this death, indicating DeGroot died  as a result of police action.

RCMP have  been  searching for DeGroot for the past few days saying he had  shot at police.

The situation was declared  critical last Thursday with police advising  residents in Slocan to  lock down their homes.  It was later thought DeGroot had fled into the woods around Slocan.

Earlier today,  ambulances arrived in Slocan,  only to leave the area a short time later.

Full details  have yet to be released on the actions which led to the death of Degroot.
