Slocan, B.C.- The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been deployed to Slocan, to investigate the police shooting death of 45 year old Peter DeGroot.
The IIO says further information will be released later this evening.
250News has learned DeGroot died this afternoon, but there has been no word on the circumstances which led to his death.
DeGroot had been the subject o an intense manhunt since last Thursday following an altercation with another man. There had been reports DeGroot had fired at least one shot at police. That incident led to police calling for residents in the East Kootenay town to stay indoors.
The lockdown later lifted, when it was thought DeGroot had escaped to wooded areas around the town.
