Slocan, B.C.- The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) expects to arrive in Slocan at daylight to take over the scene where Peter DeGroot died.
The 45 year old DeGroot had been the subject of an intense manhunt since Thursday of last week, following reports he had fired at least one shot at police in Slocan.
According to the RCMP, they located DeGroot around 1:20 this afternoon at a cabin near Slocan. IIO spokesperson Ralph Krenz says at that time, police had contact with DeGroot and DeGroot suffered serious injuries and died. Krenz says he does not yet have information on the nature of those fatal injuries.
Further information will be released by the IIO.
