Post Secondary Information Night in PG

Wednesday, October 15, 2014 @ 3:48 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Post-Secondary Institutions of BC will hold a public information night for parents next Monday.

“It’s really an opportunity for parents to talk one on one with representatives from colleges and universities around the province,” says PSI-BC Administrative Coordinator Josh Keller.

“Probably for more than 30 years the group has been doing this directly at schools, coming into town visiting students in the high schools and then carrying on. But there’s a need and an interest from parents to hear what they have to say.”

He says it will include a presentation focusing on the many post-secondary options and paths for students in BC, followed by a fair for attendees to interact with reps from all institutions.

Keller dismisses the notion that it’s students and students alone who make decisions based on their futures.

“I think we may think students make these decisions amongst themselves or for themselves, but the reality is in most cases it’s a family decision. Parents are very much involved in it because most often parents are the one’s paying for it.”

The event takes place Monday October 20th at the PG Civic Centre and will go from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

13 post secondary institutions are scheduled to attend including:

Capilano University, College of New Caledonia, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, Northern Lights College, Okanagan College, Simon Fraser University, Thomspon Rivers University, Trinity Western University, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University.
