Stage Set for Candidate Interviews on Meisner Program

Friday, October 17, 2014 @ 3:58 AM

Prince George, B.C.  – On Monday October  20th, the series of  interviews with the candidates for Prince George Council and the Mayor’s chair will  begin on 93.1 CFISFM.

This  election is  different from previous ballots as  the successful candidates will  be serving four year terms, so it is extremely important that that you take part in setting the stage for this city. It is really the only opportunity that you will get to make your voice known, and so we ask you to take part.

Two candidates will be  interviewed on  each  hour long program which will start at 9 a.m.

The candidates will be allowed to take 2 minutes to state their platform. After that, Meisner will  ask them questions and will then  open the lines at 250- 563-2347 to enable you to ask your own series of questions.

If you have a question and you feel uncomfortable about coming on the air to ask it, please send it along to Meisner at ben@250news.com  and he will ask it on your behalf.

The program will  air Monday through Friday until election day, save for Nov 11th, Remembrance day, and October 30th and 31st, when Meisner will be out of town.

The program will be carried on 250News through live streaming audio , so if you can’t hear the program on the radio,  connect here on 250News.com.

Would it be possible to have a transcript of each session available online?

I was very disappointed in both candidates at the debate on Wednesday because neither one had much to say. Grow the city and and form a mayor’s council. Big deal. I hope Meisner can ask the tough questions that will get these fellows to commit to how they will do a better job than the current mayor.
So far, both have them have said that they support the Performing Arts Centre but not really. Both support development, promotion, communication. These are very easy positions to take.
I do not think, at least at this point, that we can identify a “left wing” or “right wing” candidate. We really need to know how each of them will differ from the other and how they will differ from Mayor Green.
I would like to know how each of the candidates feel (and this goes for the ones running for council, too) about specific issues. Here are some:
1. What is your vision of theCouncil Code of Ethics.
2. Where do you truly stand on the funding and building of a Performing Arts Centre?
3. Do you intend to change the current RV Parking bylaws?
4. What are your plans for rebuilding the picnic shelter at Ft. George Park?
5. Are you willing to change the breed specific dog bylaw to address individual aggressive dogs but not target entire populations of innocent dogs?
6. Do you think there really is a need in the future for I.P.G?
7. What is your intention regarding the Four Seasons Pool?
8. Recently some very bad decisions have come from City Hall. These include refusing to send out snowplows in order to make CUPE look bad, tearing down the picnic shelter without having a viable plan to replace it and eliminating many positions at the swimming pool. Clearly there are people in management at City Hall who need to be called accountable for these blunders. Are you willing to address these poor decisions and act to prevent them in the future?
Ben, I hope you will ask some of these questions. I hope to find answers to all of them from all of the candidates.

editor’s note:
Actually, both said that while they like the idea of a performing arts centre, there is no money. Zurowski said definitely not in a first term of office, while Hall said not until there are dollars committed from elsewhere.

It would be very handy to have a list of the email addresses of every candidate who is willing to share it. Do you think Opinion 250 could produce such a list?

Editor:
that information is available on the Civic Info website, click on elections on the right side, insert the community , and you will find some if not all of the candidates have provided access information. ( click on the little grey boxes with the plus signs)

Okay, thanks for the info about the candidates. However, I think when both say they support the PAC but there is no money to build it, they are both trying to butter both sides of their bread. They both want to get votes from PAC supporters and PAC opposition. This is just what I mean about being wishy washy and trying to say the right thing to get elected. So I stick to my position that both men are essentially saying that they support the PAC but not really.
I think a politician with guts would say, “I support the PAC and I will do all I can to seek funding from many places,” or they should say, “no, we cannot afford this, let’s do without it.”

dgreenbee. If you read the above article you will note that you can phone in on the Meisner show and ask questions.

I agree with a number of your questions, and strongly recommend that you phone in and ask the candidates.
