Lyn wants the PAC…..just lost my vote. I hope Donzzy does better than waiting????? Please…. Listen to the people of the city’s comments.

In the debate Don said he would bring PAC in in his secound term. Lyn said there needed to money to do it. When there was money they could look at it. Please listen to the debate or go ask them. Your comment is not called for.

Lives here long time: You mentioned that Gus has a blog. Would you be able to give an address for it, or through Elaine to me? Thanks.

@Long time: Maybe you need to listen again to the debate, he never said anything about bringing in the PAC during his second term…

Lyn Hall is a go if government commits the funds, supports construction tomorrow as long as the 10% funding is there from government sources

Don is a no for 4 years and will take another look at it in 4 years and will support it at the council table if the population has grown enough to support it (which will still require government funding commitments at that time)

Neither is for the city to go it alone, and they are still only 1 voice of 9

Will Hall be setting up the round table in his new office. We really need another format for special interest groups to sit down with Council and push their minority agenda at the cost of the less vocal majority. Maybe he could kick off his next Core review also, that was a real winner.

What a nice guy…sets up office in the heart of downtown..free munchies for the street people :)

oops, was supposed to be 10,000 (10k) from government sources not 10 percent. one quarter costs between fed, prov, society and PG taxpayer.

The cost of the PAC is now running around $50 Million and rising. This is one hell of a cost for seating 800 people to watch a few shows. Never mind the $400,000.00 to $500,000.00 for yearly maintenance.

We need to continue to use Theatre Northwest, and the Playhouse Theatre for most of these smaller events, and the larger ones can continue to go to the CN Centre. We also have the Civic Centre which sits idle for most of the year.

There is no rational or logical argument that could support the expenditure of this type of money so that a very small percentage of the population can stand around in the lobby of a $50 Million dollar facility, sip wine, and discuss the merits of some less than stellar performance.

Without the PAC we will not get all the best performances coming to Prince George, however on the other hand neither will a large part of the Canadian population. This is one of the prices you pay for living in a smaller City. If you don’t have the tax base, you cant have all the amenities.

Not having the PAC until there is sufficient money available is good planning, and should set this project back about 10 years. I doubt if Zurowski’s plan. **Lets get growing** will make any difference to the population in Prince George for the next 10 years.

We need industry and jobs, otherwise people will not come.

As much as I like the discussion in this blog, please check yourself for correct information before posting…willyj and others. Both candidates support the PAC, but they BOTH said not now! The timeline for the PAC is at least 5-8 years away, there is no money presently on the table and plenty of other priorities ahead of that project. If we all support the idea that our community needs to grow and PG needs more professionals ect. Amenities such as a PAC are just as important as our hockey arenas, soccer fields and other quality of life initiatives…

I agree with you Palapu.. the cost of running a single purpose building is nuts. But looking around the community there are plenty of user groups such as TNW, PGSO, Studio 2880 and a handful of others that perhaps could play a role in such a facility. I’ve had a number of discussions with pro & anti PAC people and most of them feel that the building should be multi purposed. IMO there needs to be a bigger effort made when looking at arts and culture in our community. Could this be an Arts and Cultural center with a theater attached to it? If I were the City Manager, I certainly would be looking at the needs of all instead of the needs of some…

The whole concept of a PAC needs to be revisited, and as stated by Cicero, we need to make the building useful to a larger percentage of the population. One would hope that at the very least we would be able to generate enough funds to pay the operating costs of such a facility.

We need only to look at the Northern Sports Center, to see how a huge building catering to a small percentage of the population costs big money. Northern Sports is funded on an annual basis to the tune of $300,000.00 from the City of Prince George, and $300,000.00 from UNBC. There is a possibility that this building could become self sufficient, however it will take a number of years, and it seems any money presently being saved, is already earmarked for maintenance, or improvements. So the question is **When does it stop??**

With no increase in the tax base in the foreseeable future, it seems pretty obvious to me that we need to concentrate on infrastructure with what money is available.

I think Cicero said it best from both Don and Lyn’s perspectives.
Gus’s website is: gus.jokat.ca.

The concept of delegating responsibility’s to councillors for specific areas great idea from Hall and used my many citys, those elected should be directly involved with staff and decisions. After all they are elected not the city managers,

All the presently established venues which would shut down and use the PCA once it is built should start fund raising now for the PAC in order to put credibility to the whole PAC concept. After all, if it is true that the present venues are substandard and don’t do the job one would think that this would be the best motivation to get going!

So far nobody has started an account and/or made any efforts to sell 20.00 bucks memberships, sell raffle tickets for a vehicle or tickets to a show home lottery.

Lives here long time: Thank you very much. Have a good weekend.

I think it’s been made quite clear that neither candidate is for building a PAC anytime soon. This issue drives me crazy. Why continue to circle the same issue over and over, people? Our community cannot and will not support a facility like this until our population grows significantly. It is not something to worry about anytime soon. Focus on our aging infrastructure, bringing more residents to the community and move on for the time being. When my car breaks down I don’t go out and buy a new house- I fix my car. This is the same thing- roads, sewer, waterlines, etc. need attention long before a PAC is even considered.

Most of the native bands also use the system of assigning a portfolio to each councillor.

At the End of the day Hall was a key component on what I would consider the worst city council we have had in 30 years. Its time to seperate ourselves from the mess they have got into and start fresh. Don is our only other option to do this. Airport expansion, Boudary road, The dyke situation, Kin 1, core review, endless outsourcing to american companies and the list goes on and on. We as voters need to intiate change at the polls and vote for someone that will listen to the people. Don is approachable and will listen to the people. He is invested in our community as a citizen not influenced by other agendas.

Haven’t herd anyone say, “I’ll do what the taxpayer needs”.
Cheers

Superdave nailed it. No further discussion necessary.

By electing someone who was a councillor under the Colin Kinsley era, and then a failed Mayoral candidate who lost to Dan Rogers? You’ll need to have a more convincing argument than that. Vague statements on getting the City to 100,000 without any actual idea of how to do so don’t do much for me.

The more I hear from both, the more I’m leaning towards Lyn Hall.

Do like they did with the university.. Sell memberships to help raise capital.
