Hopefully Some Answers To Some Old Questions

Monday, October 20, 2014 @ 3:45 AM

One would think that the candidates for Mayor would jump in when asked what they are going to do about providing more housing in the downtown for homeless and low income people and would point out that it is not a municipal responsibility. That is unless they would like to take on the task and the province would be more than happy to see the City Of Prince George spend the money.

We still haven’t received all of the answers dealing with the building of the Elizabeth Fry subsidized housing project on some air on the parking lot of Commonwealth Health, a project which saw the city pay $900,000 dollars to Commonwealth. It will be a question that I ask of the candidates for Mayor.

You can plow a lot of snow and do allot of fixing of the roads with 900 k , and in my mind no one has ever explained that one to me, you see 250News was not invited to the opening and in addition, when we went looking for answers as to the details in the deal, rather strangely no one replied to our requests.

I still have questions about that project and it  will be among the  questions  I pose today  when I interview the candidates.

I also will raise the matter of the city being involved in the VLA and its efforts to try and clean up the area. Hate to break it to them, but the hookers and many of the  street people were moved to the VLA from downtown. You may remember that an RCMP officer was nominated for citizen of the year for getting that project going. So we moved them initially from the Island Cache to downtown town and then onto Queensway and VLA. I wonder aloud where we will send them next.

Well all of that and your calls and more this morning as we kick off the interviews with the candidates for Mayor and council beginning at 9.00am. on CFIS- 93.1 or on  streaming audio on250News, by  going to the Election 2014 tab on our home page, then  clicking on the microphone.

Of course we will await your calls.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Yes indeed. I wonder who the other ‘interested parties’ were, in the competition for that air?
Similarly, when the PG Hotel property was ‘flipped’ to the city. Was any of that money gained back when the present building there was put up?

Welll Do a study of where the Jons live and maybe relocate these people up to their neighbourhoods, Then they they won;t have far to drive to pick up a trick. We see lotta company vehicle dropping off these hookers back dntn.

They just don’t get it do they. And PG isn’t the only City that has that line of thought. I guess it may be a distraction form the real problems that face a City.
Cheers

With all that is going on in this city, can anyone tell me how THIS got pushed to the forefront of election issues? We are not the only place with homeless folk. Lets concentrate on a top heavy city hall admin staff with too much power and a 50 million payroll first.

Thank You Ben; Someone remembers how our residential area got dumped on and still is. Why can’t they red zone the Johns and get rid of them. Safety in Neighbourhood should also be a issue. We won’t be voting for anyone who is using the homeless as a stepping stone to get elected, one feeds the other.
