Peacock’s Plans For P.G.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014 @ 9:32 AM

peacock 002Prince George, B.C.- Monica Peacock  is well known in the community of Prince George. She spearheaded the  Evening of Pink, an annual fundraising event to raise dollars to battle cancer.

She was  a Citizen of the Year, and now is running  for  a seat on Prince George City Council.

She says she brings a “Different voice” to the Council table.  Speaking on the Meisner program on CFISFM this morning, Peacock says she  is not fully up to speed on the budget process at the City of Prince George. “I’ve been in many council meetings, every council sees things differently.  I believe I bring practicality  to the table.”

She says the City of Prince George should not be in the business of locating employees for  business.  She says she uses  social media to  attract  new employees.

Peacock supports the  development of a Performing Arts Centre, saying it would attract people to the community. But,  adds she doesn’t believe the City should pay for it. “Anybody who has been involved knows it isn’t going to happen  at any time soon, no one has $25 million  in their hands to  get this going.”

She says she would like to look at the options for snow removal,  she says with careful planning  there could be more done with the existing budget although she was  not  clear  on how much the current budget is. (The current budget is $5.8 million, and the request  is to increase it to $6.3 million).

On the matter of  affordable housing,  Peacock says  there is a need for more affordable  housing and  commented on the concentration of  social services in the downtown area.

This candidate sounds too uniformed for me, and won’t be getting my vote. As for employees, I don’t believe she has any. ??

I wish Monica well, I think she has a good heart but we need some tough people on Council and not so many bleeding hearts. There is a letter in the Citizen today people should read. WHAT HAPPENED TO PRINCE GEORGE? He talks about Kamloops is growing and their nice downtown. I can tell you what happened our downtown and the area around it , instead of nice shops it got turned into social agencies and social housing importing the no income people from places like kamloops, and who is to blame ?? Years ago at a meeting I went on this Issue a Council member at the time said its my passion and Ted M. said its not mine. We have to stop focusing on the so called homeless and start focusing on our City. I will not vote for anyone who is using the homeless as a stepping stone to get elected/

We need people on city council that do not have jobs already. Most are in it just for the extra 30 grand. The ones that work already, miss half the meetings. We need people who can committ time to help make descisions.

I see no problem in having an elected official having their own business or being employed or unemployed, as long as they stay informed, attend meetings, and not use their position on council as a means to gaining publicity and improving their business. Would an extra 30 grand make a difference to a flower shop owner? I don’t know.
