Local Reservist Pays Respect to Fallen Soldier
Prince George, B.C. – A local member of the Canadian Forces has paid his respects to Corporal Nathan Cirillo, the fallen soldier from Hamilton killed this morning while guarding the War Memorial in Ottawa.
Kyle Limoges with the Rocky Mountain Rangers did so at the Cenotaph outside Prince George City Hall.
“I’m disgusted. As a member of the forces it was a huge blow to myself. I didn’t know the guy but we’re all family.”
He says it’s been difficult coming to grips with what happened.
“He made it into parliament. The shooter was gunned down in parliament. That I think shouldn’t happen. Someone with a weapon should not be able to make it into parliament.”
Limoges points out what happened is something we commonly see in the United States “but here in Canada no one ever thinks about it.”
He says he commonly visits the Cenotaph but notes “today is an especially tough day.”
The shock Limoges expressed was the common sentiment expressed on the streets of downtown Prince George today.
“I was appalled” said one woman. “I don’t understand what’s going on.”
Another person called the event “pretty sad that that’s going on in our country,” but noted “its kind of the way things are going unfortunately.”
And Jason John summed up the fears of many saying another event like this “could be just around the corner.”
