Susan Scott – I Believe in my City
Prince George, B.C.- Council Candidate Susan Scott says she is seeking a seat on City Council and says she is running because she believes in the city and believes she can roll up her sleeves and make a difference.
Scott says while the operating budget has increased over the past couple of years, “I’m thinking we need to be thinking of all of the aspects and not shortchange anything”.
In the matter of snow removal, she says the new plan for snow removal “is in good stead”. The new plan calls for new priority routes and sets a time frame for clearing.
She says last year’s snow removal plan was the result of three things, heavier snowfall than normal, faulty equipment, and a policy that saw the downtown cleared before the rest of the City was dealt with.
At the time of the snow removal mess last winter, the City was involved in negotiations with it’s outside workers but Scott says “it is silly to think any city wold throw the citizens under the bus ” over snow removal in order to have a negotiating position .
On the Performing Arts centre, Scott says “I don’t think our city alone can build that facility” she says it is clear there is no money coming from the Federal Government and the Provincial government. She says she is in favour of the Performing Arts Centre, and is looking at getting it started within this term “But it is not my immediate priority.” She says the city is still underfunded in capital expenses and the City “needs to get its house in order.”
She says she would agree to spending more dollars in the downtown core to provide housing for the homeless “The City needs to help make lives better for those who need help without letting Victoria and Ottawa off the hook.”

She also said 12 million would fix our cities infrastructure. She’s one of the most clueless candidates I have heard yet. Won’t be getting my vote.
I didn’t like her answer on the PAC. She seems to think we can ‘get our house in order’ and get a PAC built in 4 to 5 years.
There is no way the City will be able to take care of all it needs to including dealing with the debt, and have the money to build a PAC as well. Not without major tax increases.
The question on social housing was avoided and shifted to senior housing, seniors that have worked all their lives pay big bucks to live in government senior housing like Gateway on 20th. Its different issues no income housing and senior housing and should not be lumped together , our seniors deserve respect.
I would love to hear one candidate address the real issue of down town. !st where are the homeless from? maybe they could go home. I have heard a lot of people are coming to PG because we offer so much free food and housing.
2nd City hall should focus on their job of running the city not social engineering. I feel our city is becoming a dumping ground for the homeless ,drug addicts and lazy. I realize this is not every one on the street but we seem to have a lot for the size of our city. If you want to build low cost housing build it for the elderly who have paid taxes all their lives.
When did the Provincial and Federal Governments actually tell us that they had no money available for a PAC. Personally I think that people have been saying this for a few years, however I doubt if the City actually went to either Government with a plan or request for money. I suspect that they are waiting until they have their portion ready to go, and the private portion ready to go. Then they will announce the other level of Government participation.
I doubt that Scott will be around after the election. It takes more than a lot of signs to get elected.
Every provincial or federal election the capital grants are up for grabs to get votes. As I have said before, capital money is relatively easy to get.
It’s the annual operating expenses that break the bank. Any candidate who says they are in favour of the PAC without explaining who is going to cover the operating expenses does not have my vote. Because invariably we the taxpayers will end up funding the bill.

Bill Gaal told council that “we were under ‘intense’ contract negotiations and it was my call to only sand the streets in the city.” It was, according to the report, Gaal who made the call not to send out the equipment that weekend, in anticipation of a full scale strike.
Pelham; You got it, now the rest of P.G. should clue in. It would be easy to clean up the downtown, get rid of the government funded coffee house called the Fire Pit you should see the people that hang around it. The next step move Native Health that takes up one corner of George St. and move it to the Native Friendship centre thats where it should be, then move the needle exchange to 1st. ave.
