Friday Free for All – Oct. 24th
Thursday, October 23, 2014 @ 11:59 PM
It has been a tragic but historic week in Canada, with two men killed just because they chose to serve .
There are still many unanswered questions about the two incidents, and there will be security changes.
Today, is the day we encourage you to exercise your freedom to speak up on the matters which struck a chord with you over the past week.
It is time for the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL
You pick the topic, but please, be respectful of the opinions of others, name calling does not add to the discussion.

Have a good weekend, everyone
In the fight against TSIS the Harper government has pledged:
” On Sept. 16, Prime Minister Stephen Harper (Calgary-Southwest, Alta.) said the government was deploying 69 military advisers to Iraq for 30 days, and that deployment has since been extended for six months.
In August, Canada sent a CC-130J Hercules transport aircraft and one CC-177 Globemaster 3 Strategic Airlifter, along with 75 Armed Forces personnel, to transport military supplies donated by allies to Iraqi security forces fighting ISIS.
In addition to these military contributions, Canada has also announced $15-million in “non-lethal” security assistance to support Iraqi forces and to help limit the movement of foreign fighters. Some 85 Canadian Armed Forces members left CFB Trenton on Oct. 16 for Kuwait, where they will help set up a camp to serve as base for Canada’s military contributions to combat ISIS in Iraq. An estimated 600 Canadian troops will ultimately be stationed at the base to support “up to” six CF-18 Hornet fighter jets, two CP-140 Aurora surveillance aircraft, one CC-150 Polaris tanker air-to-air refueling plane, and one airlift aircraft for six months
Canada has contributed a total of about $28-million in humanitarian aid to date as a result of the crisis caused by ISIS, including $7-million in relief supplies, such as emergency shelters and health-care services; $10-million to provide services and treatment for Syrian and Iraqi refugees who have been victims of sexual abuse or violence; $5-million split between four experienced humanitarian partners including Save the Children Canada; and $5-million in supplies including food, hygiene kits, cooking materials, blankets, tents and medical supplies.
In the fight against Ebola,
“Prime Minister Stephen Harper is defending Ottawa’s contribution to the battle against Ebola in West Africa, dismissing criticism from both opposition parties about the government’s decision to auction off protective gear that was desperately needed in the region hardest hit by the Ebola outbreak.
“The truth is that Canada has given $2.5-million worth of equipment, essential equipment, to the fight against Ebola, particularly 1.5 million [gloves], many respiratory masks and roughly two million other forms of protection,” Mr. Harper said in the House of Commons Monday. “We are going to continue to help the front-line workers around the world to fight Ebola.”Ottawa has so far pledged $65.4-million to the fight against Ebola
By most predictions, Ebola is far scarier than ISIS.
“The model released by CDC today looks further ahead, and its projections are even more sobering. If the virus continues to spread at the current rate, Liberia and Sierra Leone alone will have reported about 550,000 Ebola cases by 20 January, the authors write. But if the official numbers so far represent only 40% of the real burden—which many believe may well be the case—that would mean a total of 1.4 million Ebola cases in those two countries by 20 January. “I certainly hope that we see nothing like those projections,” Donnelly says. “But I think it is a realistic projection of what would happen if we didn’t get our act together.”

Every three weeks a British jihadi dies fighting with the Islamic state. Let’s those in Canada head on over, problem solved.
Thank god it is free for all….something old…something new…too early to awake for work….have a good weekend all.
Good morning everyone. Yes indeed, we have a lot to be thankful for.
Thank you Cpl. Cirillo. Your death was not in vain.
The fact that this shooter chose a soldier, a representative of what he wanted to fight against, was the alert that prevented a much greater loss of lives. It was an advance warning.
If he had simply gone to parliament and started picking his targets, it would have been much worse.
He also could have shot many civilians but didn’t. He had bigger things on his mind but he gave himself away.
That is something to be thankful for too.
Why is it that people going to court or taking citizenship pledges Can not wear face masks, But it is alright for Police and soldiers to wear Masks when working..( watch the Ottawa shooting) If your going to defend us carry firearms, let us see who you are, You all did an Good job in Ottawa,Most officers dressed like police, faces not covered, But SOME you you looked like ISIS Terrorists In Black, faces covered, and we call them Cowards(isis) for not show their faces when doing their dirty work. Just a question.
Ottawa has declared its intention to find the origin of the rifle used in the killing of the soldier on guard at the War Memorial. No problem, all they have to do is check the Long Gun Registry. Oh, I forgot. The Harper Regime ordered the registry destroyed. Too bad, so sad.
I dislike that you no longer link to cbc news feeds. The current one lacks pictures and are very dry to read
Gas prices continue to fall but diesel remains high?
Interesting poll the last day of two regarding the mayors race! I got an email from a BC Liberal to log on and vote for Don Z. I’m not for or against either of these men, although I truly believe Lyn would do a better job! My concern is that I can send an email to over 4000 business contacts across Canada and swing this any way I want! Be careful believing polls like this one people. Clearly the libs are behind generating his percieved popularity!
Is JohnnyBelt actually Sheri Green?
Lol. Maverick 1965, I have no idea but they seem to have a similar philosphy.
Maverick 1965. What makes you ask the question. ????
Premonitions of a suspicious mind.
Some of the soldiers and/or police involved in the action at Ottawa are masked because they are almost certainly members of an anti-terrorism unit, and some of what they do might be compromised if the individuals involved were identified on camera. Canada has wisely chosen to follow the British model when it comes to such units, keep them as out-of-sight as possible, rather than giving them great publicity. Much more effective in dealing with what they were set up to deal with if the ‘enemy’ doesn’t realise your capabilities. There are always going to be certain prospective dangers to what we call ‘democracy’ in doing this, but there are are also greater dangers much more directly harmful to us if we didn’t.
Sardonic, do the bad guys register their guns?
Sardonic, do you really think that firearm was obtained legally?
Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, I wish your son well and hope he understands you are a true hero, that you gave your life for us, rest in peace.
Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers, thankyou for your dedication to duty for so many years, without your actions, many more may have died.
Last Friday someone nad the audacity to suggest that I had probably never lived in the Northern Capital as I kept referring to it as “George”. Well let me assure you that when I arrived in the Northern Capital in January 1965 Northwood had bought up all the sawmills along the CNR line from Giscome to god knows where I was employed on a maintenance contract at Newlands that is now just an open area covered by willow and fireweed.
And Ben Meisner was fighting the big guys in the Big apple and Pal was just a tinkle in his dad’s eye. When I met Pal many years later during one of his battles on finance with George he asked me how old I was and I never ever herd from him again. So go figure.
This sawmill had been owned by th Fitchner (?)Bros who were operating the mill. We lived in Atco trailer bunkhouses and on Friday night the word was, hey pall are you going to “George” and get drunk or maybe check out the girls in “Prince” . The Northern Capital was just a blur in our minds we hadn’t lived there and probably never would. I left at Easter But I was wrong as I came back five years later and stayed for another 30 years.
I will always remember the Friday evening driving home south of Williams lake through the open parklands seeing the red tail lights of hundreds of vehicles that looked like they were bumper to bumper going south for the Easter Holiday.
But I degrees I don’t intend my posts to compete with Gus or Eagal1.
Cheers
Don’t worry; Gus and Eagle1 proof read their posts first. No confusion here at all. If a person can’t take the time to read what they are about to post, why should I?
How can you relate the recent incident in Ottawa as ISIS related. the guy that committed the offence was just a common crook with a chip on his shoulder.
Cheers
As a member of NATO, Canada has to answer the call, just as they did in Yugoslavia. You are aware that Turkey is part of NATO? What international treaty or organization is Canada a member of that mandates their coughing up money for fighting Ebola?
Don’t feed the troll.
A hero isn’t a person who has been executed, they are a victim. The “hero” would be the sergeant at arms, who gunned the perp down.
Why are the Liberals sending out E-Mail to vote for Zurowski ??? Is this another of their cheap ploys. Even if I had any intentions of voting for this pompous little man having the lLiberals contact me would be enough to kill my spirtis . Anyone or anything linked to the Liberal Party need not contact me in any way shape or form and try to pursue my point of views as to how to vote . However That being said , its sad that people out there voted they they would vote for neither Zurowski or Hall this sure speaks volume. I only hope that Hall has some dignity left and dosen’t have to turn to the Fiberals for support .
So someone who hates the PROVINCIAL liberals but loves JT and the Federal ones, is upset that the BC liberals are pushing Zurowski? As much as I don’t care about either issue, I would surmise our next mayor, whoever that wind-ups being will be a far better politician than the silver spoon fed drama teacher with no resume, or a backbone.
Jimmy Hughes. bad night last night Jimmy.
Cheers
The weapon used by the gunman in Ottawa was a Winchester .30-.30, a very common hunting rifle, easy to obtain legally and probably not very hard to steal or buy on the black market. I fail to see how the long gun registry would have helped to prevent this incident or what important insight it would give in the aftermath.
I won’t dispute the desirability of committing sufficient resources to fighting Ebola, but it is easy to overstate the risk of Ebola compared to that from radical Islam. When ISIS enters an area, they not only kill a lot of people, but they enslave the women, which means, among other things, that they rape them, and they subject everyone to a vicious totalitarian regime. Furthermore, they disrupt the economy and they bleed off much of what remains to support themselves and their cause. The death toll underestimates the damage that they do. Furthermore, once they obtain control of an area, they obtain control of whatever weapons and other resources are in that area. They have already begun to obtain artillery, aircraft, and chemical weapons. The successes of ISIS inspire other Islamicists. While ISIS represents the extreme of Islamicist aggression, millions of Muslims hold views not very far from those espoused by ISIS, as can be seen from, e.g., the wisespread support for the Muslim Brotherhood and the support for terrorism, so long as it is directed at Jews or other particular enemies, by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, which represents the 51 Muslim majority countries.
Ebola, on the other hand, is scary because it has a high mortality rate and no specific treatment, but it is not that easily transmitted. Transmission requires the transfer of bodily fluids. Unlike influenza, it is not transmissible by air. That means that the risk is much less likely in countries like Canada than in Africa. In its African home, Ebola is transmitted at high rates because of: (a) poor sanitation; (b) high rates of unprotected sex; (c) the consumption of “bush meat” from animals that carry the virus; and (d) the presence of biting animals that carry the virus, namely certain species of fruit bats. Here in Canada we have much better sanitation and lower rates of unprotected sex. Few if any of the species that carry the disease exist here in the wild. We should, therefore, for humanitarian purposes, help to fight Ebola in Africa, and we should take reasonable precautions here, but Ebola is not likely to cause anywhere near the same damage here as it might in Africa.
I like both Don and Lyn and I think either one would make a good Mayor, they are going to have a lot to deal with like WHAT HAPPENED TO PRINCE GEORGE. The main question is what direction do we want to go?
Donald Mackenzie : To answer your question about the tactical officers wearing balaclavas, some of the officers work under cover assignments and there fore there identity needs to be protected, hence the mask.
We need a “none of the above” selection on the ballot and the mayor’s chair can be rotated through the councilors on a weekly basis.
There, power decentralization and rule by committee.
This terrorist because of past convictions could not legally own a gun. So how useful would have been the long gun registry?
Billposer nailed it.
The world found out by looking at the eyes of a isis agent in full head mask beheading a good guy, who he was,by using computers, and the police think that evil people do not have the same knowledge and the same computers.
Loki:”We need a “none of the above” selection on the ballot…”
We have had that option for many years! Just don’t put an X in any one’s name square – that actually counts as “none of the above”, don’t you think? Just leave it blank!
Mav: “Is JohnnyBelt actually Sheri Green?”
Pfft. Guess again, Sparky.
PS, I voted for Dan Rogers in the last election.
Loki: “We need a “none of the above” selection on the ballot…”
PG: “We have had that option for many years! Just don’t put an X in any one’s name square – that actually counts as “none of the above”, don’t you think? Just leave it blank!”
Or, just don’t bother to show up to the polling station. Same difference.
Not voting is the same as giving the people who vote more power.
Oh for the days when Zurowski was a go-getter businessman. Full of vigor and able to make decisions that counted and worked in an instant……he helped build a great business and then sold out and made a bunch of money..entirely appropriate and deserving for someone like Don who worked their butt off and makes good decision.
Then……after just a few short months…spending his days at Community Futures…Don Zurowki turns into the consummate bureaucrat…
What a shame…What a waste of all those years Don spent in business!
I watched him in his role of Councillor and just shook my head….unable to make a decision….table until next meeting…..don’t have the information we need…..let’s study this some more…and on ad nausea-um.
Prince George doesn’t need bureaucrats running our City. It needs innovative thinkers who are not afraid to get things done.
Zurowski is not the person to lead our City Council.
JB:”Or, just don’t bother to show up to the polling station. Same difference. Not voting is the same as giving the people who vote more power.”
Well, wait a minute! The mayor is up for election. That is one matter, the other matter are the councillors.
One can still pick one or more of the councillors, of course! If there is a non-binding opinion poll question on the same ballot, one can vote on that issue as well.
Plenty of options besides not showing up!
Some people don’t bother to vote at all. They are probably turned off by all the hoopla and never kept promises.

Lets say for 1 second that the long gun registry was still active. Now what? Do you know how many firearms were never registered under that tax grab system? The long gun registry was a joke.

This Ottawa shooting wasn’t a terrorist attack. It was a mentally ill person that snapped. No more, no less. Our fearless leaders, (and I use that term very loosely) love these type of incidents as they can then remove more of our rights and freedoms. Radicalized? Yeah wtf ever!
Frank should go, we dont need someone with special interest on council. Conflict of interest. We need new people in council. I hear a lot of good stuff about lynn hall.
Ya what ever.
Why is it that every time I go for a ride on my motorcycle there is always some brain dead DB that insists upon risking my life by tailgating, cutting me off, stopping behind me within just a few feet or just generally being complete idiots? Do I need to start carrying a pocket full of ball bearings for your enjoyment? Really people, go find a bloody brain will you?
Lyn Hall will be another Shirley Bond. We don’t need two of those in this country.
Too bad some of the posters seem to forget that when terrorists are being fought, we have a case of one side (us) following the rules and the other side, the terrorists having no rules at all. When the stated goal of a group is the total destruction of everyone who does not believe what they believe in, it will be a long fight unless we learn to
fight by the same rules they follow, none.

Like most websites, 250News doesn’t want you to click a link and go to a competitor’s site. The links are set up so you can still read the story and give this website much needed ad hits. The only surprising thing is that they didn’t do it sooner.
Perhaps I will come and visit you at the office Dick and we can chat over coffee? Right beside Direct automotive right?
Dragonmaster
It might be time for you to seek some professional help. Last week you were talking about how you blind people in approaching vehicles with your high beams and now ball bearing that could injure maim or kill someone. The superintendent of motor vehicles should yank your licence until you are deemed mentally fit to be behind the wheel.
Meds could also help.
Dow, that was way outa line, chill out!
Dragon, this guy did what ISIS told Muslims to do, he went and waged war on Canada through an innocent unarmed soldier, that’s a terrorist. I don’t mind at all losing some of my charter rights and freedoms so long as they can stop these idiots from leaving a son without a Dad.
If pointing out that it is not normal to intentionally endanger the life and well being of other people on the public roads is idiotic then guilty as charged.
Opps my bad..Hall looks like another hArper..
JohnnyBelt

Opps! Hey Dan how you been I voted for you as well.
1fastma use netbistro.com and you can customize news feeds.
Hey Dragon what about the soldier killed and another injured by the hit and run driver? What about the attack on police in New York? Lone wolf attacks called for by the Islamic state.
2011 – NATO and the US have been arming Libyan rebels via Egypt to overthrow Qadhafi.
2012 – US ambassador to Libya, has died in an attack on the US consulate in Libya by Libyan rebels who overthrow Qadhafi.
2014 – A son of Libyan-Canadian rebel who overthrow Qadhafi attacks Canadian parliament in Ottawa and kills a guard.
O l d saying: chickens come home to roost.
