“We Will Remember”
Prince George, B.C. – We will remember.
The words of Royal Canadian Legion chaplain Susan Scott during this mornings’ vigil remembering the two Canadian soldiers murdered this week – Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.
Well over 100 people gathered for the ceremony at the Cenotaph in front of City Hall which included RCMP officers, firefighters, legion members, and the Rocky Mountain Rangers.
“It’s been quite a week,” reminded Scott who said it’s important to never forget what happened or to “brood over these actions.”
Liberal MLA Shirley Bond said what happened made her think of the best and worst of our country including “the brutality” yet also the five Canadians who tried to assist “a dying soldier.”
A minute of silence was also observed after which legion president Bruce Gabriel spoke of the need to combat terrorism.
“There’s terrorism all around the world and it’s hit home and I hope the powers in Ottawa realize that they have to do more to help our people.”
Gabriel says whether it means more money spent on security, or more taxes it needs to be done to ensure “people know they’re safe.”
