Travis Shaw Takes Second Shot
Prince George, B.C.- Travis Shaw says he’s offering a fresher and a better voice for the community.
While he admits not knowing specifics about the City’s budget or civic issues, he says he is in it to get the conversation going. “The last election, not many people voted, and when people stop me in the coffee shop and complain I ask if they voted. ”
He says he would like to work to improve the economy, and would work to improve the trade agreements with China. He doesn’t support the idea of twinning Prince George with a Chinese City, rather, he would prefer to work with Tourism Prince George to have more people come to Prince George “We need to have a different angle on it, head on is not an angle” He says he would like to see more effort made to improve the image of Prince George.
He says people tell him their own opinions on what they would like to see as a better image of the City. So, how would he go about fixing it?
“We need better community entertainment, rather than big concerts at CN Centre, like the street festival downtown. Doing things like that in different areas of the City. ” He says a couple more nightclubs, a couple of family type restaurants, things like that , that bring the family together.”
Shaw says last year’s snow clearing was “bullshit”.
He says he would dress up as his alter ego, Foxi-DeRossi “If my mother would let me.”
He says the city isn’t spending as much as it should on the “stuff that it has, rather than building something new that just costs more to run.”
On the matter of homelessness, he says money should be spent on dealing with the causes of homelessness. He says he would like to sit down and talk with homeless people and find out what they want “They are still people, I would want to go talk with them and find out what would work.”
He garnered 1598 votes in the last election, and is shooting for 4,000. “If anyone can change perceptions, I can, I’ve made a whole career of changing perceptions.”

Well that was a painful interview
Future’s so bright, he’s got to wear shades!
Thanks Ben for being thorough and all inclusive.
It’s nice to see young PG residents wanting to be involved, however, this fellow seems to lack knowledge in all areas they spoke about. Unfortunately just too young and uninformed.
Painful interview to be sure, but at least he seems forthright about not being too serious about the bid. About the only thing I agreed with him on is that he’s not peppering the town with election signs. Not enough to get my vote.
Painful is the right word… I’m sure he’s done a lot for the LGBT community in PG, and he should be proud of that. He’s not right for municipal politics. Doesn’t know enough about how the city works, or have any sort of true background qualify him for the position. Good enthusiasm, but not a serious candidate.
Never heard the interview on Ben’s show, but from what I have seen so far with the past city counsel can’t imagine he could be worst.
I saw Travis at the Spruceland Shopping Centre this morning after his interview with Ben. There is no doubt he is a likeable person and his heart is in the right place. However, his lack of knowledge about municipal politics is very evident. I think if he took the Pol. Science 101 course (offered at UNBC) he might realize the enormous responsibility of what it entails to be a municipal councillor is.
It was a painful interview, he doesn’t have any experience and is in the race simply for the attention. I am glad the rest of the users who commented were not too hard on him.
Honesly, putting this person on council would do more for breaking our redneck stereotype to Vancouverites than ten years of IPG advertising.
I admire Travis for his courage. If he wants to interview street people all he has to do is go for lunch at the Fire Pit. It looks like the Red Zoned people are back. We need to get rid of the government funded coffee house.Safety in the downtown and residential neighbourhoods should be a Issue.
We all have to start somewhere. I’d rather vote for him than someone that’s been in the biz for years and still talks in circles.
I did not see the interview, but since when do we judge whether or not a candidate will make a great counsellor based on one interview? I have seen Travis speak previously, and am aware of the values and personal effort he makes at being a great community member. I think it would be refreshing to have somebody of Travis’ character on City Council. I am confidant that he is better informed than other representatives we have had. His interests are not self serving, as they are for others who use the opportunity to sit on council to launch themselves in other political arenas. Travis seems genuinely interested in helping people and making Prince George a better place to live for all citizens. I wish you the best of luck Travis!
Like the old saying goes, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. If Mr. Shaw wants to be taken seriously, then he needs to treat interviews like this one seriously and do some homework before coming on the show. To me, it sounded like he was doing this for the attention, not because he has aspirations to be a councilor.
After listening to this interview Travis doesn’t deserve a single vote in this election. Do some homework! Go take a listen to Merricks interview, which is a perfect example of a new candidate taking this seriously and preparing herself.
Foxy foxy foxy!
Could he be any worse than Stolz or greenie?

You really care what some other city dwellers think about PG? Thats pretty sad dude.
Yes Duh – IPG is spending money in Vancouver to change their views of PG. Its really not rocket science.
