Bear Awareness for New Immigrants
Prince George, B.C. – The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society are hosting a bear awareness session today.
The talk will be given by conservation officer Daniel Eichstadter who says the point of the session will be to educate those with little or no experience on how to react to bears should they experience a chance encounter.
“Absolutely. Yes, the society contacted me to ask if we could come in and do that presentation and give that bit of education as to what these animals are, how they normally live and how we humans can be around them without there being any issues.”
He says he’s expecting his audience will be “intrigued” by what he has to say.
“I know a lot of people out there are curious about bears and it’s better to give information so people know how to proceed when they encounter them.”
Eichstadter says he’ll give a standard presentation noting many in the audience may have a fair bit of knowledge on the topic already.
“A lot of people are educated on it, now matter where they’re from.”
The talk begins at 10:45 and wraps up at noon.

How about moose? More injuries and near misses from them in this area than bears.
We also have been invited and there is a portion of the presentation which will provide information about moose.
