Union Boss asks Board for Better Communication
Prince George, B.C. – Tina Cousins, president of the Prince George and District Teachers Association, addressed School Trustees for the final time prior to next month’s election, at tonight’s board meeting.
She thanked the trustees for their dedication the past three years and as an elementary school teacher offered them “two stars and a wish.”
Cousins says the two stars the past three years were the stand alone policy for LGBQT students and the new school in Giscome.
She said her wish was for better communication between the union and board.
“We feel the protocol for communication between you and the PGDTA hasn’t been enough.”
Cousins called on the board “to examine the liaison groups and make it more functional.”
She said it would allow for more detailed discussion of “our big issues like class size and composition, recruitment and retention.”
Cousins suggested both parties meet once per month and noted the five minutes allotted each board meeting isn’t enough.
She also encouraged the trustees to attend their sponsored forum next week (November 4, 7pm at Vanier Hall).

Tina get to teaching and let the board do their job unimpeded.
Patronizing as well as sanctimonious. It is comforting to note she has been afforded twice the amount of time she deserves, to read from her talking points.
It was quite hard for the board to have communications during the teachers’ strike – the last 2 weeks in June and the first 2 weeks in September they actually were on strike -the summer the teachers had their holidays – so were they really on strike?
PGTDA do get to speak at meetings and it is usually more than their alloted 5 minutes as her executive could each speak if they so wish for 5 minutes which would amount to over 30+ minutes.
