Saturday, November 1, 2014 @ 3:45 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Wendy Kellas of Prince George is one of 19 people who have been  honoured this week with a Community Safety and Crime Prevention award in B.C.

She is the manager of the Highway of Tears Initiative at Carrier Sekani Family Services. The Highway of Tears Initiative supports families and communities in their efforts towards health and vibrancy, as well as  working with the Aboriginal communities and service providers on the dangers of hitchhiking along Highway 16.

“The theme of this year’s BCCPA Crime Prevention Symposium, ‘Responsibility + Action = Power’, recognizes that it is important for everyone within a community to take responsibility for their community’s wellbeing and, by doing so, they might find a sense of empowerment” says BC Crime Prevention Association President, Rob Smith. “We congratulate all of this year’s Crime Prevention Award recipients and nominees. It is through their efforts and leadership that the ideals of community policing can flourish, encouraging others to take on a measure of responsibility and finding within themselves the ability to improve lives through the prevention of crime.” Crime Prevention week in B.C. starts today.
