Prince George, B.C. – The push is on to complete the alterations to the Civic Centre Plaza in time for Tuesday’s official renaming of the site as Canada Games Plaza.

The plaza was a beehive of activity on Saturday with bricks being laid, trees and shrubs being planted, ground leveled, areas sprayed and cleaned, all to get the project completed in time for the November 4th Torch Party. The date marks the start of the 100 day countdown to the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and, alongside the renaming, there will be a torch relay starting at the Y and ending at the plaza, with live music and a fireworks display at 8:30 Tuesday night. The relay also marks the start of the torch relay across northern BC, with celebrations in Quesnel, Terrace and Fort St. John before the torch returns to Prince George in preparation for the opening of the Games in February.

The plaza will be the site of the medal presentation ceremonies during the Games and will also be the entertainment centre. Meanwhile work continues at a furious pace this weekend to get the renovations completed in time for the Tuesday bash.

The price tag for the alterations is $945,000, with the City’s share coming in at $500,000.

Is anyone really surprised ?

they sure can’t blame it on the weather….but I am guessing they will try

It’s all going to be covered in snow in a month anyways. Waste of money…

Let me assure you, It will NOT be covered in snow. They will have bobcats at the ready 24/7 to clear.

And the gardens??

the gardens will have snow, but most of the work has been on the pavement. They ripped it up and put down bricks.

Good picture for Initiative PG showing the construction crane in the background.
